Checking mineral exploitation activities in Muong La

On April 9, Mr. Dang Ngoc Hau, Vice Chairman of Son La Provincial People's Committee, and a working delegation inspected the application for confirmation of surface water use by Son La Sturgeon Joint Stock Company and the state management of mineral activities in Muong La district.

The working group inspected the current status of the water surface area used for sturgeon farming by Son La Sturgeon Joint Stock Company in La Bung village, Muong Trai commune. Thereby, determining the location and water source used from Nam Mu stream, a tributary of the Da river for aquaculture, on a total water surface area of ​​70,000 m2; the water surface usage time is 365 days/year. The project of raising sturgeon on the Son La hydroelectric reservoir has a total investment of nearly 296 billion VND; the scale is from 90-95 tons of fresh fish, 150 tons of frozen fish and 23 tons of black sturgeon eggs.

During the inspection, comrade Dang Ngoc Hau assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to promptly complete the documents and procedures for granting a Water Surface Use Registration Certificate to Son La Sturgeon Joint Stock Company, in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Water Resources 2023 and Decree 54/2024 of the Government. Son La Sturgeon Joint Stock Company is required to use the water surface as committed, not affecting the safety of dams and reservoirs, ensuring the quality of water sources and being subject to inspection and supervision by state management agencies.

On the same day, the working group worked with the People's Committee of Muong La district on the management of mineral exploitation activities. Accordingly, Muong La currently has 9 planned locations for sand, stone and gravel mines. The Provincial People's Committee has granted licenses to 4 units to exploit sand, stone and gravel for common construction materials. Muong La district has strengthened the inspection and supervision of mineral exploitation activities in localities. However, illegal exploitation, transportation and trading of minerals still occurs in some remote areas.

Comrade Dang Ngoc Hau requested Muong La district to strengthen the propaganda and dissemination of laws on land and minerals. Assign the Department of Agriculture and Environment to guide localities in handling violations of land and minerals. Propose to the province to supplement the mineral planning with unplanned and unlicensed mines. Strengthen inspection, supervision and handling of violations. It is necessary to install security cameras in areas with unexploited minerals for convenient monitoring and management.../.
