According to farmers in Sa Dec Flower Village, Dong Thap Province, there has been unseasonal rain for the past two days. This phenomenon is a bit strange, because compared to the same period in many years, the rain ended two weeks ago.
Mr. Dang Quang Giau - Tan An flower and ornamental plant cooperative, An Hoa ward, Sa Dec city - said that the flower growing area of the cooperative is about 3 hectares, estimated to supply the market with 200,000 flower baskets of various kinds. Of which, there are 35,000 baskets of multi-colored Korean raspberry chrysanthemums, stopping planting traditional yellow raspberries due to low selling price.
“This time of year, the rain is a bit more unusual than the same period in many years. If it only lasts for 1-2 days, it's okay, but if the rain lasts for more than a week, we need to pay attention to drainage for the roots and reduce lighting at night,” said Mr. Giau.

According to the Economic Department of Sa Dec City, the area planted with ornamental flowers to serve the Spring of At Ty is about 100 hectares of chrysanthemums of all kinds, roses of all kinds, apricots, carnations, marigolds, almonds, orchids... of which about 70 hectares were planted first including chrysanthemums of all kinds, almonds, roses...
Notably, the traditional yellow raspberry chrysanthemum is reduced to 75,000 baskets, and the colored raspberry is reduced to 100,000 baskets.

Mr. Doan Huu Bon - a farmer in Pho Tho - Ba Bo ornamental flower village (Binh Thuy district, Can Tho city) - said that the heavy rain from yesterday evening to this morning - December 3 - did not have much impact on Tet flower growers.
“At this time, flower growers are very vigilant about Tet flowers, especially the weather, and are most afraid of fungi and diseases that often appear 2-3 days after rain. Therefore, this morning, flower growers started to wash away rainwater, then spray pesticides to treat fungi and diseases,” said Mr. Bon.
In Pho Tho - Ba Bo flower village, there are currently more than 200 households growing Tet flowers (in Long Hoa and Long Tuyen wards, Binh Thuy district).
Despite many years of difficulties due to weather and slow consumption, people still keep the profession. It is expected to supply the market with 100,000 - 200,000 flower baskets of all kinds equivalent to 2024.

Mr. Tran Thanh Tam - Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Dong Thap province - said that the cold and rainy weather has only appeared in the past few days, so we have to wait a little longer to assess the level of impact on Tet flowers.
“The cold weather phenomenon occurs every year, so Tet flower farmers have mastered flower care techniques. In particular, chrysanthemums must adjust the amount of light appropriately to bloom at the right time.
Regarding the whitefly disease that caused the yellow raspberry chrysanthemum to bloom unevenly last year, the agricultural sector has also given recommendations to farmers, and so far everything is stable," said Mr. Tam.
