"I sell medium-sized raspberry chrysanthemums for 300,000 VND/pair, with 2 colors. This year, raspberry chrysanthemums sell very well because of their new colors, which customers love. I have been selling them since December 20, and now I only have a few dozen chrysanthemum pots left. Since I started selling at the market, I have displayed about 1,000 pots of various flowers, and the purchasing power is stronger than previous years," said Mr. Le Thanh Truong (living in Binh Thuy district, Can Tho city) boasting that raspberry chrysanthemums are selling "like hotcakes".
According to Dan Tri reporter's records at the Tet flower market on Tran Van Hoai street (Ninh Kieu district), at 5:00 p.m. on January 26, the 27th day of Tet, the shopping atmosphere on this street was quite bustling, people were "carrying in their hands and under their arms" hurriedly carrying flowers to display and decorate their houses.
This year, the Tet flower market in Can Tho has changed. Most sellers said that chrysanthemums, Taiwanese chrysanthemums, cockscombs... are selling much better than in previous years.
Mr. Huynh Van Ut (living in Binh Thuy district) shows off his "huge" pot of purple chrysanthemums.
Mr. Ut said that this raspberry chrysanthemum was grown by a gardener in Ba Bo flower village, and is not inferior to flowers in Sa Dec. "The large purple raspberry chrysanthemum costs 850,000 VND/pair, the price is high but customers really like it, now I only have more than 10 pairs left. Once sold, I will go home for Tet," said Mr. Ut.
According to Mr. Ut, compared to traditional yellow chrysanthemums, purple, pink, dark red chrysanthemums... are more difficult to grow because they need to be lit to get their color. Chrysanthemums must be planted in the sixth lunar month to bloom in time for Tet.
Taiwanese chrysanthemums cost from 300,000 to 500,000 VND/pair, depending on height.
Mr. Quoc Ky (residing in Ninh Kieu district) went to the Spring flower market and "brought" a pair of colored chrysanthemums and a pot of gypsophila home.
"I just bought a pair of large marigolds to display in front of the door. This year's flowers are so unique and beautiful that I bought them to brighten up my house. In general, the price of flowers this year has not changed compared to previous years, but the variety of products is more diverse," Mr. Ky happily said.
Raspberry chrysanthemums are "selling well" but the marigold market is somewhat less prosperous. According to sellers, this year there are too many gardeners growing marigolds, causing a market glut. Currently, marigolds cost from 100,000 to over 140,000 VND/pair.
