Previously, the meteorological agency forecast that during this cold air mass, the lowest temperature at night and early morning in the midlands, the Northern Delta and the North Central region will generally be from 11-14 degrees Celsius, in the mountainous areas of the North 7-10 degrees Celsius, in the high mountainous areas below 3 degrees Celsius in some places; in the area from Quang Binh to Thua Thien Hue 15-18 degrees Celsius.
According to this forecast, during the day and tonight (December 17), the temperature in the above areas will reach its lowest level, then increase slightly tomorrow.
However, according to previous assessments by meteorological experts, around the night of December 18, cold air is likely to be reinforced, causing temperatures in the entire North to continue to drop.
Mr. Nguyen Van Huong - Head of Weather Forecast Department - National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that from around December 17-20, the Northern provinces will likely be affected by a very strong cold air mass.
"This is the first widespread cold spell to occur across the North this winter. Between December 19 and 20, there is a possibility of frost and frost in some places, especially in the highlands," Mr. Huong said.
At the same time, the meteorological agency also warned that this severe cold could last after December 20.
Further forecasts from the Hanoi Center for Meteorology and Weather recorded that around December 24, the lowest temperature would drop to 11 degrees, then increase by 1 degree and continue to maintain.
Due to the influence of continuous cold air, on the night of the 18th, the North will have rain in some places, on the morning of the 19th there will be scattered rain and light rain. The weather will be very cold, in mountainous areas it will be very cold, in high mountainous areas there is a possibility of snow and ice.

Localized heavy rains could cause flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes and flooding in low-lying areas.
