In a conversation with a reporter from the People's Army Newspaper, Lieutenant Colonel Bui Van Viet, Brigade Commander of Brigade 127, affirmed that inheriting the unit's tradition, officers and soldiers of the Brigade always strive to successfully complete their tasks in new conditions and circumstances.

PV : Can you tell us about the typical features in the tradition of Brigade 127?

Lieutenant Colonel Bui Van Viet: In response to the requirements of the revolutionary mission, on May 27, 1978, the Ministry of National Defense issued Decision No. 414/QD-BQP to establish the 127th Naval Squadron (the predecessor of the current Brigade 127). On February 12, 1979, the 127th Naval Squadron was upgraded to Brigade 127 under the Command of Coastal Region 5.

During the implementation of its mission, the unit overcame numerous difficulties and hardships, especially during the Southwest border campaign and 10 years of international missions in Cambodia (1979-1989). During these years, officers and soldiers fought steadfastly and fiercely in the neighboring country; regularly undertook heavy tasks, operating for long periods at sea in extremely arduous and fierce conditions... but the unit achieved many outstanding feats, adding to the heroic tradition of the Army, the Service and Naval Region 5.

Having completed its glorious international mission, in September 1989, the Brigade quickly consolidated its forces, improved its organization, improved its overall quality and combat strength, meeting the requirements of the mission in the new situation; carried out the tasks of training, combat readiness, patrolling, reconnaissance, management, firmly protecting sovereignty, maintaining political security, order and social safety in the assigned sea area; coordinated with friendly units, Party committees, authorities and people of localities to build an increasingly strong people's war posture at sea; participated in transporting and building the Truong Sa archipelago; protected oil and gas exploration activities, economic activities at sea; prepared forces and means to be ready to carry out search and rescue missions, helping people overcome the consequences of natural disasters; effectively deployed foreign defense missions, contributing to strengthening the relationship of cooperation, solidarity, friendship, building a peaceful, stable and developed Southwest sea area.

PV : Promoting tradition, over the past time, what results has the Brigade achieved in carrying out its tasks in the new situation, comrade?

Lieutenant Colonel Bui Van Viet: The officers and soldiers of the Brigade always respect and strive to continue the heroic tradition of the unit. The officers and soldiers always build a strong political stance, deeply understand the situation and tasks; are not afraid of difficulties and hardships, and are ready to receive and successfully complete all assigned tasks.

The Brigade has successfully completed dozens of patrols, posts, combined patrols to manage the sea area and joint patrols with the Royal Thai Navy and the Royal Cambodian Navy, contributing with forces in the entire Management Area, firmly protecting sovereignty, maintaining a peaceful and stable environment in the Southwestern sea and islands; coordinating with the Border Guards of the provinces: Kien Giang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau to patrol, control, and thoroughly prevent illegal entry and exit activities in the Southwestern sea area.

The units of the Brigade completed 100% of the training content and time according to plan. 100% of the live-fire exercises were good and excellent, with absolute safety in all aspects. The officers and soldiers of the entire Brigade strictly complied with the laws of the State and military discipline, ensuring absolute safety in all activities; there were no violations requiring disciplinary action; there were no complaints or denunciations.

Along with that, the Brigade always pays attention to policy work and mass mobilization work; has mobilized, donated, and helped soldiers with serious illnesses, families of soldiers in difficult circumstances, and people in An Thoi ward, Phu Quoc city (Kien Giang); visited and gave gifts to families of martyrs, wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, relatives of families with preferential policies; organized medical examinations and provided free medicine to people in the area...

PV : In the coming time, the world and regional situation is forecast to have complex and unpredictable developments. To successfully carry out the tasks in the new situation, what solutions have the Party Committee and Brigade Command determined?

Lieutenant Colonel Bui Van Viet: The task of protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland places higher demands on Brigade 127, requiring officers and soldiers to unite, strive to study and train, constantly improve their qualifications in all aspects, firmly believe in overcoming difficulties and challenges, successfully complete all assigned tasks, and be ready to sacrifice to firmly protect the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.

The Party Committee and Brigade Commanders focused on leading and directing the continued building of a truly politically strong Brigade, as a basis for improving overall quality and combat strength. Building a clean and strong Party organization, promoting the vanguard and exemplary role of cadres and Party members.

The unit always focuses on consolidating and building forces in the direction of "refined, compact, strong", constantly improving the level and combat readiness, grasping the situation in the air and at sea, promptly advising and proposing to superiors to handle well, not being passive and surprised in any situation, building, supplementing, perfecting documents, and practicing combat plans proficiently.

Along with that, the Brigade takes good care of logistics and technical work to meet the requirements of regular and unexpected tasks; promotes combined strength, builds and strengthens the relationship of military-civilian solidarity and the spirit of international solidarity.

PV : Thank you very much, comrade!

Over the past 45 years, Brigade 127 has been honored to receive the Second and Third Class Military Exploit Medal; the Second and Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal; the Ministry of National Defense and the Navy Command presented 29 emulation flags and certificates of merit.
