'After completing my military service, I will come home and marry you'

In Hanoi, at exactly 8 a.m., 30 districts, towns and cities of the capital simultaneously held military handover ceremonies. This year, Hanoi handed over 4,417 citizens to join the army, of which 717 performed public security duties.

116 enlisted citizens were present at the military handover point of Dong Da District on the morning of February 13.

At Hoang Cau Stadium - the military enlistment point of Dong Da District (Hanoi), 116 citizens enlisted in the army and police were present. Attending the military enlistment ceremony were Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh, Deputy Minister of Public Security Le Quoc Hung, representatives of Hanoi Capital Command, Hanoi Police and Dong Da District.

Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh and Deputy Minister of Public Security Le Quoc Hung presented gifts to encourage new recruits to join the army.

Present at the military handover and reception point of Dong Da District early, new recruit Trinh Dinh Ha Khoa (24 years old) said that after graduating from Hanoi Open University, he wrote an application to volunteer to perform public security duties.

"I want to contribute a small part of myself to the Fatherland. At the same time, this is also an opportunity for me to improve in the police environment so that I can mature more every day. When I return, I hope to become a man who is useful to society," said rookie Khoa.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Minh Thuan (89 years old) was moved when her grandson Nguyen Manh Tuan (23 years old, a citizen performing public security duties) left for the army. Mrs. Thuan shared that after graduating from the University of Water Resources (Hanoi), her grandson refused many job opportunities to volunteer to join the public security service.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Minh Thuan (89 years old) encouraged her grandson Nguyen Manh Tuan before he left for military service.

"My child grew up in a family with a revolutionary tradition. I was also a soldier in Dien Bien so I want him to follow in the footsteps of previous generations," Ms. Thuan shared.

At the military handover point at the Vu Ban District Military Command (Vu Ban District, Nam Dinh), 226 new recruits left for military service. In the moment of seeing the new recruits off, hundreds of people, relatives, friends... all had emotions that could not be expressed in words.

Along with wishes for good health and early completion of tasks are promises and engagements of couples, they have to temporarily part ways when their love is beautiful to complete the country's tasks.

Before the car carrying the soldiers rolled back to the unit, new recruit Tran Tien Phat could not hide his longing for his girlfriend, Dinh Thi Ngoc Lan (20 years old, living in Vu Ban district). Phat quickly ran to the iron fence, held his girlfriend's hand and gave Lan a goodbye kiss.

"He said he would wait for me for two years, and after completing his military service, he would come home and marry me. I promised him I would wait at home, and the two years would pass quickly," said Lan.

This morning, February 13, despite the cold weather of 17 degrees Celsius, many parents and friends were present early at the military handover and reception point of Dong Da District to encourage the new recruits before departure.

This year, the rate of citizens with university and college degrees joining the army reached 46.4%, an increase of 9.1% compared to 2024, of which the rate of university and college degrees participating in the people's public security service reached over 70%.
