What is the suitable schedule when traveling to the Northeast - Northwest?

VnExpressVnExpress14/03/2024

A family of 4 would like to consult on a suitable itinerary to self-drive a tour along the East - Northwest route for about a month.

This summer, my family wants to drive our own car to travel to all the mountainous provinces in the North, for about a month. My family consists of my husband, wife and two children, 10 and 12 years old. Both husband and wife can drive. I hope readers who have traveled with similar itinerary and time can advise my family on a reasonable schedule.

If there is anything else to note, please give specific advice. Thank you.

According to advice from Mr. Viet Hung, representative of a travel company in Hanoi, and Cuong Pham, who has traveled many times to the northern mountainous provinces, there are some things to note for your family if you want to make the above journey.

- You need to plan carefully, prepare mentally, physically, with means, money and necessary items for yourself and your children to enjoy a long and truly comfortable vacation.

- You need to determine what type of trip you are going to take, backpacking or relaxing (backpacking or luxury). Once you have determined your needs, then you can make a schedule, book a hotel room, and choose a restaurant. If you are going to relax, you should stay in resorts, move around a little, and eat at restaurants. On the contrary, you can start your trip anywhere, anytime, regardless of meal times, or meals can be flexible, even eaten right on the bus.

- You also need to clearly determine whether you like to go to a few places or go to as many places as possible, check in or learn in depth at each stop.

- Because the trip is in the summer, you need to check the weather to choose a good departure time so that the trip is not affected.

- You need to understand your interests to choose suitable destinations. The following places can be considered as stops on the journey: Dien Bien (Pha Din Pass, Dien Bien Phu, A Pa Chai Westernmost Point), Lai Chau (Sin Suoi Ho Village), Lao Cai (Sa Pa, Bac Ha, Y Ty, O Quy Ho Pass connecting to Lai Chau), Son La (Moc Chau, Ta Xua), Ha Giang (Dong Van, Meo Vac, Lung Cu, Ha Giang City), Yen Bai (Mu Cang Chai, Tu Le, Tram Tau), Cao Bang (Ban Gioc Waterfall, Ma Phuc Pass, Pac Bo Relic Site), Tuyen Quang (Na Hang Lake, My Lam Mineral Spring), Bac Kan (Ba Be Lake, Nang Tien Cave), Lang Son (Lang Son City, Mau Son Peak).

- If you want to visit all the above places, your time may be longer than expected because the traffic in the Northern mountainous region is not as easy as the plains. The advice is to go to each region, for example the Northwest first, then another trip to the Northeast. According to Mr. Hung, now is a good time to experience the Northeast.

- The most important thing for a long trip is that you have to consider the feeling of "boredom" when you are away from home for too long. "Missing home-cooked meals, missing your room, missing your daily life and work" is something that many tourists will often experience. Children are also a factor that can make you "end the trip earlier than planned", Mr. Cuong said and shared that you should adjust the entire trip time accordingly.

Good luck with your choice and have a great trip.
