From September to October every year, when the rice fields are dyed yellow by the color of ripe rice, the Tay ethnic people in Dan Chu commune happily organize the New Rice Festival to pray for favorable weather and good crops.
The New Rice Celebration, also known as the New Rice Festival, not only has spiritual significance but also educates generations about morality and lifestyle, while preserving and promoting the traditional cultural beauty of the Tay people.
Located in the west of Ha Long city, Dan Chu is a mountainous commune with more than 90% of the population being ethnic minorities, of which the Tay ethnic group is the majority, so the New Rice Celebration has long become a part of the cultural beliefs of the people here.
The New Rice Celebration is one of the customs that still preserves many cultural values of the Tay ethnic group, held on the 10th day of the 10th lunar month every year. After the end of the rice harvest season, families will prepare colorful trays of rice and the most delicious cakes made from newly harvested agricultural products to offer thanks to heaven, earth and ancestors.

The ceremony begins with a procession... to the festival venue. The main purpose of the festival is to offer thanks to heaven, earth, and ancestors for giving a bountiful harvest.
On the day of the New Rice Festival, many people gather in the festival yard to offer offerings to the gods and ancestors with agricultural products and skillfully prepared foods such as chicken, pork, sticky rice cakes, wine, and especially rice and sticky rice cooked from newly harvested rice.
The shaman will represent the people to offer incense to heaven, earth, and ancestors to thank heaven, earth, and ancestors, and at the same time send wishes for a prosperous life and good health for everyone. The Tay people here also perform Then performances to pray for peace and blessings for the participants.
