According to the Department of Information Security (Ministry of Information and Communications), recently, on Facebook, many service pages and groups have appeared posting articles about "fast passport service", "fast and cheap passport service in Hanoi", "fast passport, Vietnam entry and exit visa"... with the cost of these "fast services" many times higher than the fees prescribed by the State.

The Information Security Department warns of the risk of information theft when using fast passport services on social networks.

With attractive offers on social networking sites such as: "no need to go far, no queuing, no waiting, home delivery, fast passport service at low cost..." has attracted the attention of many people.

However, the subjects did not use the citizen's phone number to fill in the passport application form, but instead wrote the subject's phone number or wrote the wrong permanent address to falsely declare the passport application content, hindering immigration officers from contacting the citizen when necessary to notify or request additional documents, thereby prolonging the time it takes to issue the citizen's passport.

Through the phone number, the subjects claiming to be citizens grasp the content that needs to be supplemented with documents. When they do not receive their passports, citizens go to the immigration office to ask and find out that the documents have not been supplemented for processing.

In addition, the Department of Information Security also said that some bad guys also took advantage of this to steal personal information such as: portrait photos, citizen identification cards, phone numbers, emails, permanent addresses, OTP codes... to carry out other illegal acts in cyberspace such as: registering to open bank accounts, borrowing money on online applications; stealing Facebook accounts, VNeID...

To prevent this situation, the Information Security Department recommends that people be extremely cautious when receiving invitations to use any online service. They should not trust or provide personal information to unknown individuals.

"Currently, receiving passport applications online on the National Public Service Portal and the Ministry of Public Security's Public Service Portal creates great convenience for citizens. People can take the initiative in time and location, submit applications quickly and easily, without having to go directly to the police agency to complete the application procedures.

Therefore, people should submit their passport applications online on the National Public Service Portal or the Ministry of Public Security's Public Service Portal," said a representative of the Information Security Department.

In case of being unable to submit the application, people can ask relatives, friends, acquaintances, reputable people, people who are knowledgeable about information technology or go directly to the police station where they reside for specific and detailed instructions.

When encountering cases showing signs of fraud, people need to contact the police to promptly resolve the case according to regulations.
