Vietnamese engineer puts 'made by Vietnam' code into global products

Mr. Trinh Quoc Huy (born in 1988) works in dozens of countries and participates in projects that create global products made by Vietnamese people.

He worked at FPT Software right after graduating from FPT University. With good professional skills and foreign language skills, the male engineer is always a key member in the unit's important projects.

"However, I always want to find a way to step out of my comfort zone," he shared.

Therefore, in 2019, Quoc Huy took on the position of Global Account Manager in the European market. He went to the office in Germany with a lot of thoughts on how to expand the market, find customers, increase sales or simply integrate into life abroad.

From a position where he only focused on programming products, he became "the person who traveled the most in the branch, through two or three dozen countries", regularly interacting with influential people in the world's economic and technological fields. The engineer born in 1988 recounted that the change in living environment and work almost 100% after 10 years of stability forced him to double his efforts compared to the previous period.

"Sometimes, I have to remember how university taught me how to adapt and how to use knowledge as a tool to develop myself," he added.

Quoc Huy shared that his greatest pride when working in Germany is that the lines of code programmed by Vietnamese engineers have run in world-class technology products. He participated in the process of bringing the best programmers from FPT to join the team programming the lighting system on the Audi e-Tron. This is a "super product" car line. The lighting system applies many complex technologies to optimize safe lighting in all real-life situations.

At first, many partners did not trust the technology developed by Vietnamese people. At the same time, Vietnamese programmers were also self-conscious when entering the international market. Therefore, Mr. Huy had to struggle with himself and his team; discuss and convince customers to see the actual results.

"The moment the 'made by Vietnam' code was put into a world-class product. I thought my ambition had come true and there was also national pride in it," he recalled.

Continuing the success, in the past two years, Quoc Huy has doubled the unit's revenue, successfully cooperated with many large industrial and technological enterprises, and expanded the branch presence throughout Europe. Currently, he is the Regional Director of Bavaria and Southern Germany.

According to him, his current success is partly due to his studies at FPT University. As a student in the first class of the school, Quoc Huy majored in Software Engineering, following his wish in high school.

The curriculum here is entirely in English. Teachers also share a lot of practical knowledge, linking training with businesses. Therefore, when graduating, he did not encounter many surprises with the work in the business.

The director, like many other students, needs to learn English, Japanese, and Vovinam, a traditional musical instrument. For him, mastering a new technology or asserting himself in a global technology environment is a difficult task, requiring individuals to have different ways of learning and working. "The environment at FPT University made me realize that to be successful, one not only needs to be good at professional knowledge but also needs to be equipped with many other skills," he said.

Among them, Quoc Huy is most satisfied with the training model that is closely linked to business reality from an early age and has a lot of experience.

"At that time, I found it a bit funny, what was the point of programming students knowing how to play the monochord, the moon lute...? But after working in Germany, I saw that the owners of the biggest companies were often good at playing a sport or a musical instrument," he shared.

Having an understanding of traditional music makes Huy more impressive in business dealings.

Currently, the Director of the software unit in Europe continues his journey to conquer new projects. He hopes to welcome many excellent young programmers to his team, together achieving the goal of bringing more Vietnamese "brainpower" into the world's products.
