Việt NamViệt Nam02/01/2024

In recent years, farmers in the Cua area (Cam Chinh and Cam Nghia communes), Cam Lo district have boldly converted many areas of pepper-growing land affected by pests and diseases to grow galangal. Initially, the introduction of galangal to replace pepper has brought stable income to many farmers.

According to the report of Cam Lo District People's Committee, currently galangal is grown in Cam Chinh and Cam Nghia communes with an area of nearly 30 hectares. This is a crop variety that is very suitable for red basalt soil; the plant can be harvested after one year of planting, has few pests and diseases during its development, low investment and care costs but high productivity.

This year's galangal crop has an average yield of 60 tons/ha, an increase of more than 10 tons/ha compared to 2022. Currently, galangal is purchased by traders at 9,000 VND/kg, an increase of nearly 2,000 VND/kg, so each hectare brings in an income of about 54 million VND.

Although prices are high and unstable, Cam Lo district recommends that people do not rush to expand acreage but mainly invest in intensive farming to increase productivity.
