NDO - On November 20, in Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang province, a working delegation of the Ministry of National Defense led by Lieutenant General Le Quang Minh, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, conducted a comprehensive inspection at the Naval Region 5 Command.

The delegation comprehensively inspected all aspects of the work of Naval Region 5, such as staff, politics, logistics, and engineering. In particular, focusing on the system of books and documents of all sectors; training, combat readiness, building regulations, discipline, and safety assurance; results of the implementation of the task of managing and protecting the sovereignty of seas and islands; the order and quality of Party work, political work, and the work of ensuring logistics, finance, and engineering for the tasks.

The inspection conclusion shows that the Naval Region 5 Command has thoroughly grasped and implemented the military and defense tasks in 2024. Notably, it has performed well in combat readiness, defense diplomacy, patrolling, and sea management; organized training, drills, and live-fire tests for the subjects according to plan, ensuring absolute safety.

Lieutenant General Le Quang Minh inspected Ship 264, Squadron 515, Brigade 175, Naval Region 5.

Party work, political work, building a regular system, and discipline training were carried out synchronously and closely; the technical status of weapons and equipment was good; logistics and financial work were fully guaranteed, timely, and in accordance with regulations.

Naval Region 5 has done a good job of promoting sea and island affairs, combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing; effectively maintained the program "Vietnam Navy as a support for fishermen to go offshore and stick to the sea"; the activity "Navy sponsors fishermen's children"; done a good job of mass mobilization, search and rescue, prevention of natural disasters, fires and forest fires.

In 2024, the unit coordinated with local authorities and forces to promptly extinguish 7 fires in the stationed area; transported and provided nearly 1,000m3 of fresh water free of charge to people in drought and saltwater intrusion areas in Ca Mau province and fishermen on islands in the Southwest sea. Thereby, it contributed to strengthening the solidarity between the army and the people, building a solid "people's hearts" position at sea.

Concluding the inspection, Lieutenant General Le Quang Minh acknowledged and commended the achievements of the Naval Region 5 Command in the past time, and requested the unit to continue to perform well its military and defense tasks in the remaining months of 2024 and the following years. In particular, focusing on improving research capacity, accurately forecasting the situation; strictly maintaining combat-ready forces and means; strictly managing assigned sea areas, not missing or missing targets, and being passive and surprised in all situations.
