Successful agricultural start-up from the philosophy of family happiness

Under the typical harsh sunlight of the Southeast region, Mr. Dang Duong Minh Hoang showed us homemade mosquito repellent tools and gave us careful instructions before taking us to Thien Nong farm. He explained: "It's still the rainy season, there are a lot of Aedes mosquitoes, if you're not careful, you can easily get dengue fever."

Quit job abroad, return home... to grow avocado

With a total area of ​​50 hectares, including 30 hectares of rubber planted around as an organic buffer zone, 8 hectares of pepper and 12 hectares of avocado in the core area, the land in Cay Da village (Phu Van commune, Bu Gia Map district, Binh Phuoc province) was left by his deceased father as a legacy of diligence and hard work.

Previously, the entire farm mainly grew cashews, but the productivity was not high and the economic efficiency was very low. However, after returning from France and Japan with excellent degrees and certificates in automation, Minh Hoang made a decision that surprised his family: to eliminate the entire cashew area, which was the main source of income for the whole family.

The farmer born in 1988 started to improve the land, planting native avocado varieties suitable for local soil conditions, with a special fat, softness, and sweetness to build a very "strange" brand: Ong Hoang Avocado.

“Perhaps because I was born into a farming family, I was drawn to agriculture from a young age. It was from the days I followed my father into the garden to pick cashews and harvest fruit trees that I understood the hardships of farmers. Therefore, I was determined to win a foreign scholarship and succeeded,” the owner of Thien Nong farm shared.

With the desire to improve the lives of farmers, after graduating, he gave up all job opportunities abroad with "huge" salaries to return to his homeland. With the knowledge he had learned and his creativity and diligence, he quickly reaped the first results with an ecological agricultural model following the motto "from farm to table".

Slowly following Mr. Dang Duong Minh Hoang on the road through the farm that still had traces of heavy rains, we learned that all of his crop areas met VietGAP and ASEANGAP standards, with outputs being organic supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, and also exported to some countries such as Thailand, Cambodia...

Even more surprising is that each “Ong Hoang Avocado” tree is assigned a unique identification code, helping farmers and consumers understand the growth and development process from planting to enjoying.

“If you want to go far, go together”

The success that the young entrepreneur has achieved today comes not only from his own diligence and hard work or the love for farming passed down from his father, but also from his talented and resourceful wife born in 1990: Ms. Tran Thi Trang.

With the consistent motto of “if you want to go far, go together”, at Thien Nong farm, each member has a specific task and job. In particular, Mr. Dang Duong Minh Hoang is directly responsible for product output, operating the internet of things system to manage the farm, while Ms. Tran Thi Trang, with her expertise as chief accountant of a foreign company, now plays the role of chief accountant, handling issues arising at Thien Nong.

Mr. Hoang confided: “In order to do a good job and fulfill the role of a husband and father, I always prioritize listening and sharing with my wife, especially when we come up with initiatives and ideas to develop the farm together. For me, personal happiness is when I can make my family happy and help those around me happy. My greatest wish is to build a solid foundation with my wife and pass on to my children the love of farming.”

Agreeing with her husband's point of view, Ms. Trang said: "Happiness is when all family members are happy, gather together, share all joys and sorrows, and overcome obstacles in life. Most importantly, each person must put their trust in each other, support each other as much as possible to reach higher levels together."

With a solid foundation, the young entrepreneur in the highlands of Bu Gia Map is always confident in trying new creative ideas at work. There were times when Thien Nong farm encountered many difficulties that seemed impossible to overcome, and Mr. Hoang himself wanted to give up many times, but with her understanding and kindness, Ms. Trang gave her husband the strength to confidently move forward on the path he had chosen.

When hearing that the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union and Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company (PNJ) had selected them as one of the “Outstanding Young Families” in 2022, Mr. Hoang and Ms. Trang could not hide their emotions. They said that this would be a great source of motivation for them, together with their children Dang Tran Bao Ngoc and Dang Gia Huy, to try harder to build a happy family and fulfill their role as young citizens.
