Junior high school students in Akita City, Akita Prefecture (Northeast Japan) will have the opportunity to learn how to apply artificial intelligence (AI) to agriculture when they visit the Akita City Crop Promotion Center.

Students get hands-on experience in smart agriculture

Here, the center staff will tell the children about the challenges facing the agricultural sector, including the labor shortage. One of the solutions to deal with this situation is smart agriculture using AI and information technology. This method is increasingly being applied by many farmers in Akita Prefecture. The children will see with their own eyes tomatoes grown using AI technology, as well as the care process controlled by handheld devices...

The Akita City Agriculture Promotion Center started holding farming experience events to promote farming last year. Representatives of the center said they would be happy if these experiences could make students consider becoming farmers in the future.
