Large data warehouse gradually formed

In Vietnam, agricultural production is a strength, playing a supporting role in the economy, ensuring food security and export growth. In the first 10 months of 2023, the total export turnover of the agricultural sector reached 43.08 billion USD. This year, the agricultural sector is forecast to earn 53-55 billion USD from the export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products.

However, besides those achievements, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan repeatedly pointed out the current situation where the agricultural sector is still unclear about information, leading to supply and demand disruptions. Producers are unclear about the market, while the market is unclear about production capacity, and management agencies are also unclear about these stories.

General data is the prerequisite for forecasting agricultural markets, contributing to building appropriate mechanisms and policies to serve production development orientation. However, for many years, we have been collecting data manually, scattered, and lacking connection. Therefore, agricultural prices are unstable, supply and demand are unbalanced, and many times we have to call for "rescue".

Minister Le Minh Hoan emphasized that digital transformation will help the agricultural sector gradually eliminate ambiguity. Accordingly, the application of digital technology in building a large data warehouse is a premise for information transparency, accurate analysis and forecasting of market trends, agricultural product prices... then returning to organize production appropriately, ensuring supply-demand balance.

To build a big data warehouse, in 2022, the agricultural sector cooperated with the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) to put into operation the Livestock Information System and Database. Because, with data, management agencies can see management objects, organizational models, optimize operations, and gradually smarten artificial intelligence.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said that this will be an important foundation for improving the management and operation capacity of state agencies, organizing livestock development according to market orientation, signals and needs, strictly controlling quality and food safety to increase the value and competitiveness of Vietnamese livestock products.

At the same time, it is a platform that helps connect and share proactive two-way information between state management agencies, businesses and breeders. The system will help update accurate and timely information on breeding facilities, total herds, output, products, animal feed and product consumption markets.

Next, the agricultural sector will put into operation the National Database System on crop cultivation, creating proactive connections and two-way information sharing between state management agencies and people and businesses operating in the crop cultivation sector. From there, exploit the database for various purposes such as: policy making, production direction, regulation, supply-demand connection, transfer of technical advances, estimation, forecasting, monitoring and control of production, product quality control, traceability of agricultural products, etc.

According to the leader of the Department of Crop Production, this is an important foundation to help the crop production industry stabilize output, control quality, increase competitiveness and develop sustainably to meet market requirements. Based on this foundation, it is possible to analyze and forecast the market situation of key agricultural products and promptly identify products with potential for large-scale development.

To facilitate operations, in addition to the website, the Department of Crop Production has coordinated with VNPT to build a mobile app so that units in need can easily access, exploit information, and operate the database system.

Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien acknowledged that the construction of an information system, database, and management of growing area codes is important in identifying Vietnamese agricultural products, contributing to building trust, affirming the brand of quality of Vietnamese agricultural products in domestic and foreign markets, bringing benefits to farmers, cooperatives and businesses.

Along with that, the system coming into operation will bring many practical benefits to both management agencies, businesses and farmers. Typically, such as monitoring and controlling production; controlling product quality at the source; tracing the origin of crop products; supporting and connecting product consumption markets; consulting and supporting cultivation techniques.

Currently, data on the VNPT AIMS system is continuously synchronized, directly connected to specialized management systems, agricultural monitoring and control centers, helping management agencies reduce the time to collect, report, and compile industry data by field, supporting timely and accurate decision making.

Through VNPT AIMS, relevant ministries and branches can comprehensively manage all areas of the agricultural sector, assess the management situation and grasp accurate information about crops, livestock, aquatic products, diseases, techniques, production, seasons, etc. in an overview, thereby providing orientations to promote sustainable agricultural development.

According to the report of the Center for Digital Transformation and Agricultural Statistics, in the first 9 months of 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has implemented 43/51 key tasks assigned in the Ministry's Digital Transformation Plan in 2023, related to digital awareness, digital infrastructure, digital data, digital platforms... For example, the livestock, crop cultivation, and veterinary sectors have deployed the development and completion of big data of the industry.

The agricultural sector is accelerating the construction of data architecture and traceability. This is the basis for synchronizing existing databases and moving towards standardizing databases in the future.
