Opening of ASEAN-China Education Cooperation Week 2024

The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, and the People's Government of Guizhou Province, China, and took place over 6 days (from August 20 to 26), attracting the participation of more than 4,000 delegates and guests, including government officials, leaders of educational management agencies, diplomatic representatives, youth, and scientific researchers; experts, scholars, student representatives, and reporters from press agencies of ASEAN countries and China; with a series of events including 70 different activities, aiming to promote exchanges and cooperation in the field of education and training between ASEAN countries and China.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, representatives of the organizing units and leaders of education management agencies of ASEAN countries and the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization emphasized the strong development of the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership since its establishment in 2021, especially in the fields of economy, trade and people-to-people exchange. In particular, education, as an important part of people-to-people exchange, has contributed to training human resources to effectively support the sustainable development of ASEAN countries and China.

Representatives of the countries emphasized that cooperation in education, human resource training and science and technology has achieved many outstanding achievements in recent years. The ASEAN-China Education Cooperation Week is a platform for management agencies and educational and training institutions to deepen cooperation at all levels and in all fields, creating a premise for human resources and intelligence for the sustainable development of countries in the region.

The year 2024 has been identified by the governments of ASEAN countries and China as the ASEAN-China Year of People-to-People Exchange. The ASEAN-China Education Cooperation Week 2024 focuses on cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchange, demonstrating the latest achievements in educational cooperation and exchange between ASEAN and China, promoting educational models that combine innovation, taking education and scientific research to promote production development; sharing experiences and achievements of countries in the fields of higher education, vocational education, basic education, special education, lifelong education, etc., in order to better promote the role of promoting people-to-people exchange, deepening educational cooperation, serving socio-economic development in the region.

The China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week has been an annual education cooperation forum between China and ASEAN countries since 2008. Over the past 17 years, the forum has played an active role in promoting educational cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between China and ASEAN countries, and is included in the ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership Vision 2030.

This year's China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week will feature many important events such as the launching ceremony of technology transfer results between ASEAN and China universities, the signing of cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding; the establishment of cooperation organizations and mechanisms; the building of a common scientific research platform, the sharing of educational resources, and many vocational skills competitions targeting students from countries in the region.
