The first writing of the year, why does it fade?

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên09/02/2024

The meaning of the custom of writing the first words of the year

Saying no to homework for Tet used to only happen at the teacher level but has gradually expanded to the school leadership level and in recent years to the provincial and municipal education sector. Learning changes, in the era of innovation, “saying no to homework for Tet” is natural.

One of the new features is the story of students writing the first words of the year. Previously, writing the first words of the year was quite popular in some so-called "educated" families in big cities or "learning lands".

When I was a student, I also heard my friends talk about the tradition of writing the first words in their family. Specifically, after New Year's Eve, students sit at their desks, open their books, maybe read a few pages, write something or do some exercises.

The meaning of writing the first letter of the year is to hope to study harder and get better academic results.

Reasons why the custom of writing the first words of the year is fading

But now, the custom of writing at the beginning of the year has diminished for many reasons.

Firstly, Tet is a holiday, students do not have to touch books - say no to Tet homework, including "first writing of spring" homework according to the trend.

Second, students do not touch books in a constrained way according to the old concept that "if you love to study on the first day of the year, you will love to study all year long". Therefore, there will no longer be a situation where students, even though they do not like it, still have to sit at their desks to fulfill their parents' wishes.

Students now say no to Tet homework, including "first writing of spring" homework following the trend.

Third, a generation of students from the past have now become parents. Times have changed, they can look back and see that the first writing of the year is unnecessary and teach the younger generation more practical things.

Fourth, today's students receive many new things in the 4.0 era, so the first writing of the year can become... a thing of the past.

For many years, I rarely heard about students writing the first words of the year. Today is the 30th of Tet, a special day that everyone, every family looks forward to to close the old year.

This is also a special day for family reunion dinner to welcome the New Year. Students also reward themselves with truly happy and meaningful moments rather than sitting at their desks to write the first words of the year.
