A new hotel in central Java is trying to claim the title of "world's thinnest hotel" at 2.8 metres wide.
PituRooms is set to open in December 2022 in the town of Salgatiga, Central Java. Hotel owner Ary Indra said the project is not only aimed at setting a world record but also at attracting international tourists to the small town.

Born and raised in Salatiga, Ary studied engineering and then worked in Jakarta and Singapore. After a while, he decided to return to his hometown and apply the knowledge he had learned to start a business.
In Salatiga, Ary found a piece of land that no one wanted to buy because it was not square. Now, on that land is the Pitu Rooms hotel with 7 rooms, 5 floors high. Each room is large enough to fit a double bed and a small bathroom with shower, toilet and different interior decoration.
The town lies at the foot of Mount Merbabu. Guests at PituRooms can enjoy spectacular mountain views from their hotel rooms. There is a restaurant on the top floor of the hotel specializing in local cuisine. Pitu Rooms also plans to host events and art exhibitions.

“I want people to experience Salatiga in a new way,” said the hotel owner.
Salatiga, located more than 480 kilometers southeast of the capital Jakarta, is virtually unknown to international visitors, which is why, despite being open for nearly a year, the hotel has only welcomed about 5 percent of its international guests.
Still, among Indonesians, Salatiga is known for its good food, infrastructure and quality of life. Most people rate the town as “a great place to retire.”
