MacRumors cited analyst Jeff Pu's note revealing that two Apple foldable devices have entered the NPI (New Product Introduction) stage with the ultimate goal of entering large-scale production.
The expert also added that production will begin in the second half of 2026. This is consistent with recent rumors, at least about the iPhone Fold. Accordingly, since January 2025, many sources have said that Apple has chosen a partner to produce screens for the first foldable device.
However, Pu did not specify whether the pair of foldable devices are iPhones or iPads. It is entirely possible that Apple is developing two iPads or two foldable iPhones.
In a research note to investors with Barclays, analyst Tim Long said Apple’s first foldable iPhone will likely start at around $2,300 in the U.S. For comparison, that’s double the price of the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which starts at $1,199 and makes it the company’s most expensive phone ever.
Along with the foldable device announcements, Pu predicts that iPhone shipments will be “dismal” over the next 12 months due to delays in Apple’s AI rollout. However, the analyst believes that foldable devices will change that, specifically boosting business with manufacturer Foxconn.
Previously, Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman also said that 2026 could be a boom year for the iPhone thanks to two completely new designs being developed: a foldable iPhone and a mysterious new design.
“Apple is preparing to launch a thinner iPhone later this year and is focusing on finalizing development of its first foldable iPhone device for 2026. I’ve also heard that there is another new iPhone design in the works for that year,” Gurman said.
However, regarding the foldable iPhone, Wccftech believes that this phone is still a long way off, as a previous report revealed that all of Apple's prototypes so far have a clear fold line.
This is also the reason why Apple may step back when launching this product. For this technology giant, the crease will mean a major flaw.
