There have been a lot of leaks about the upgrades that will come to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus that are expected to launch later this year.
Here are the upgrades that will be available on the iPhone 16, which are said to be superior to its 'predecessor' the iPhone 15 launched last year.
About design
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to largely follow the design of their predecessors, meaning they'll be the same size. The most notable change on the new models is said to be a vertical rear camera arrangement to support spatial video recording.
The latest leaked image from Majin Bu, an account that often posts accurate rumors about Apple, shows the metal frame holding the two rear camera lenses placed vertically instead of diagonally like the iPhone 15. Previous renders also showed a similar design with two vertical cameras.
In addition, the traditional vibration switch will also be removed in favor of the Action Button introduced on the Pro models launched last year. In addition, the iPhone 16 may have a separate Capture button that allows users to open the camera and take photos with just one press of the button. These are considered important changes for the standard iPhone 16.
Chips, memory and connections
The rumored iPhone 16 models will get a decent performance boost thanks to the all-new A18 chip with a more powerful Neural Engine to support exclusive AI capabilities.
In addition, the iPhone 16 also has upgraded RAM and supports Wi-Fi 6E instead of Wi-Fi 6 like on the iPhone 15.
Battery and charger
The iPhone 16 models could get some major improvements in battery technology and charging capabilities, with larger batteries and faster charging capabilities.
It's worth noting that the iPhone 16 Plus is rumored to have a smaller battery than its predecessor, but it's unclear how this will affect the iPhone's actual battery life.
Other features
The iPhone 16 models will likely get some camera improvements, such as spatial video recording for Apple Vision Pro.
While many Apple devices are rumored to receive a slew of new AI-based features via software updates later this year, the iPhone 16 models are expected to go even further with exclusive capabilities, powered by the powerful Neural Engine in the A18 chip.
Release date
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to launch this fall. Apple typically holds an event in September each year to introduce new iPhone models and release them just over a week later.
