After many times of increasing deposit interest rates, An Binh Commercial Joint Stock Bank ( ABBank ) for the first time since September 4, 2024 decided to reduce deposit interest rates.

ABBank has just announced a 0.1%/year reduction in online and counter deposit interest rates for deposit terms from 2 months to 60 months.

Accordingly, the bank interest rate at ABBank for 1-month term is kept at 3.2%/year, the remaining terms after reduction are as follows: Interest rate for 2-month term is 3.4%/year, 3-5-month term is 3.9%/year, 6-month term is 5.4%/year, 7-11-month term is 5.5%/year, 12-month term is 5.7%/year, 13-18-month term is 5.5%/year and 24-36-month term has interest rate of 5.4%/year.

Thus, the highest online savings interest rate at ABBank is currently 5.7%/year (12-month term).

However, after more than a year of hiding information about special interest rates for the super-rich, ABBank suddenly announced a return with an interest rate of up to 9.65%/year for customers opening new/renewing savings deposits of VND 1,500 billion or more, with a term of 13 months.

This is the highest special interest rate on the market today, higher than PVCombank (9%/year), HDBank (8.1%/year) and Vikki Bank (7.5%/year).

Meanwhile, the interest rate for 13-month term deposits with interest paid at the end of the term for general customers is listed at the counter by ABBank at 5.3%/year. The highest interest rate for deposits at the counter of ABBank is 5.5%/year, applied for a 12-month term.

The interest rate for deposits at the counter listed by ABBank is 0.2%/year lower than the online interest rate schedule, for all terms.

Meanwhile, MSB “hid” information about special interest rates last week. The highest deposit interest rates of up to 8%/year for a 13-month term and 7%/year for a 12-month term for savings accounts with a minimum balance of VND500 billion are no longer updated in the bank’s interest rate policy.

Vikki Digital Bank has also recently changed the conditions to enjoy special interest rates, raising the minimum deposit from VND 200 billion to VND 999 billion to enjoy an interest rate of 7.5%/year with a term of 13 months.

Some banks are also maintaining special interest rate policies, including LPBank, ACB , HDBank and PVCombank.

Specifically, PVCombank is listing the highest bank interest rate of 9%/year for 12 and 13 month terms, with the condition that customers have a minimum deposit balance of VND 2,000 billion.

HDBank listed interest rates of 7.7%/year (12-month term) and 8.1%/year (13-month term) for customers depositing from 500 billion VND, receiving interest at the end of the term.

ACB has a special interest rate of 6%/year for a 13-month term with interest paid at the end of the term when customers have a deposit balance of 200 billion VND or more (normal counter interest rate is 4.5%/year).

At LPBank , the highest interest rate at the counter is 5.5%/year. However, for deposits of 300 billion VND or more, the interest rate applied to customers receiving interest at the end of the term is 6.5%/year, receiving interest monthly is 6.3%/year and receiving interest at the beginning of the term is 6.07%/year.

With ABBank joining the race to reduce deposit interest rates, since the meeting on February 25 between the State Bank of Vietnam and commercial banks on interest rates, 21 domestic commercial banks have reduced deposit interest rates by 0.1-0.9 percentage points depending on the term.

Since then, no bank has increased deposit interest rates.

In March alone, 17 banks have reduced deposit interest rates since the beginning of the month.
