According to Jakarta Globe , the Indonesian government wants the future capital in East Kalimantan to become a smart city with flying taxis.
According to Mohammed Ali Berawi, Deputy Head of Green and Digital Transformation, the agency is trying to invite Wisk Aero to join, making Nusantara's flying taxi dream a reality.
Wisk is developing an electric drone. Wisk will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Boeing in early 2023.
In October 2023, Wisk became the first electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air taxi company in the US to conduct test flights over Los Angeles.
Wisk is currently developing a 6th generation eVTOL aircraft. The Wisk flying taxi is fully electric, can carry 4 passengers and fly autonomously with the supervision of ground staff, has an operating range of 144km, and a full charge time of 15 minutes.
Previously, regulatory body Nusantara signed a memorandum of understanding with South Korean auto giant Hyundai to cooperate on flying taxis and will conduct testing of the five-passenger aircraft in July 2024.
The Nusantara government has ambitions to build an innovative technology capital, including flying taxis, to be deployed by 2045.
