With new chairman, Vietravel Airlines announces new direction

Vietravel Airlines has announced that Mr. Do Vinh Quang, son of Mr. Do Quang Hien - founder and executive chairman of T&T Group , has officially assumed the role of chairman of the board of directors.

Along with the change in senior personnel, T&T Group representatives revealed new strategic directions, marking a turning point for Vietravel Airlines in the aviation sector.

According to Vietravel Airlines, T&T Group aims to build Vietravel Airlines into an aviation ecosystem based on a corporate model, expanding into the field of air cargo.

Mr. Do Quang Hien added that the group does not only stop at transportation, but also participates in aviation services, ground services, engineering and aviation industry.

Currently, T&T Group is working with aircraft manufacturers Boeing and Airbus, aiming to build maintenance, repair (MRO) and aviation component manufacturing centers in Vietnam.

Therefore, Vietravel Airlines is considered an important piece in the chain of infrastructure - logistics - aviation projects that T&T Group is implementing.

Recently, in early January 2025, T&T Group and Singaporean consulting firm CPG Signature Pte Ltd worked with the People's Committee of Quang Tri province to present the idea of planning an aviation industrial complex in this locality.

Vietravel Airlines is flying 1 plane

However, according to many aviation experts, Vietravel Airlines will still face many challenges in terms of fleet size in the coming time.

Currently, the airline's fleet consists of only one dry-leased narrow-body aircraft. For aviation to be profitable, airlines must have at least 30 aircraft.

In the Vietnamese aviation market, Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet are leading in market share and overwhelming in the number of aircraft from 50-100 and plans to add more aircraft.

Meanwhile, Bamboo Airways and Pacific Airlines have not been able to increase the number of aircraft because in a short period of time, they suddenly reduced from 11-30 aircraft to 3-5. Meanwhile, Vietravel Airlines had a period of operating 3 aircraft but now only has 1.

Not only are aircraft rental prices high, airlines are also facing difficulties with debts to suppliers, such as Vietnam Airports Corporation - ACV, ground services, meals, fuel, etc.

Currently, Vietravel Airlines operates domestic routes connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Da Nang, Quy Nhon, Nha Trang, and Phu Quoc. Vietravel Airlines also has two international routes from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok (Thailand).

However, the airline frequently cancels flights, changes flight times or dates, making many customers hesitant and not daring to book tickets even though the website offers competitive prices compared to other airlines.

New staff of Vietravel Airlines

Along with Mr. Do Vinh Quang, the list of members of the new term of Vietravel Airlines' board of directors also includes Mr. Do Quang Vinh - Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of SHB Bank, Chairman of BVIM Fund; Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Nghi - Deputy General Director of T&T Group; Mr. Dao Duc Vu - General Director of Vietravel Airlines...
