'Cooperatives are the pillars of the collective economy'

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Cao Xuan Thu Van, President of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance, requested the provincial Cooperative Alliance, member cooperatives, and collective economic organizations to closely follow the targets of the Resolution of the 6th Congress, the Resolution of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance and the province.

Perform well the function of representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of members, improve the effectiveness of consulting and supporting services for members; effectively implement trade promotion programs, combine investment promotion, build value chains, digital transformation and improve efficiency for cooperatives in the period of 2023-2025.

According to Ms. Van, Vietnamese people are very intelligent, hard-working and diligent, so anything the world can do, we can do. Through this, Ms. Van wants to convey the message that cooperatives must be strongly developed.

"Cooperatives operate on the basis of self-responsibility, equality, and democracy. Unlike limited liability companies and joint stock companies, whoever has the most capital will decide. However, cooperatives use people, so human development is very important. I hope that the Binh Dinh Cooperative Alliance will continue to research and build specific and effective models," the Chairman of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance noted.

The Chairman of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance said that Binh Dinh province has 5 cooperative models but no educational cooperative model. Meanwhile, in developed countries in the world, there are many cooperatives such as education and health that operate very effectively.

"I give a few examples like that, so that we have to stop thinking that when we look at cooperatives, we look at poor farmers; when we look at cooperatives, we only understand that they are pitiful people who need help, but we don't understand that this is our strength.

Cooperatives are the lifeblood of the collective economy, and the collective economy is an indispensable component of Vietnam. Therefore, cooperatives never end but only change form, moving from low to high and very high levels," Ms. Van emphasized.

High technology application in cooperatives

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Permanent Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, shared that after 30 years of construction and development, with 6 congresses, the Provincial Cooperative Union has performed well its function of representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of its members.

The provincial Cooperative Union has promoted, mobilized, consulted on the establishment, and accompanied and supported cooperatives in exploiting the potential and strengths of the locality to develop production and business. Thereby, affirming the role and position of the collective economy and cooperatives in the local socio-economic development.

To date, the province has 248 cooperatives and people's credit funds operating in many fields, creating jobs for thousands of workers. Of these, more than 100 cooperatives have profits of 200-500 million VND/year, contributing billions of VND to the state budget.

At the same time, in the province, many new cooperative models have been formed associated with product value chains, building typical products of regions; many cooperative products have achieved 3-star, 4-star, and 5-star OCOP product certifications.

At the ceremony, Permanent Vice Chairman Nguyen Tuan Thanh commended and acknowledged the efforts and achievements that the Provincial Cooperative Union has achieved in recent times.

At the same time, it is recommended that Party committees, authorities, the Fatherland Front and mass organizations, departments, branches, localities, and the Provincial Cooperative Union effectively implement a number of key tasks in the coming time.

"It is necessary to raise awareness of the nature, position, role and importance of the collective economy in a socialist-oriented market economy; increase the application of high technology and digital technology associated with processing and consumption according to the value chain, improve quality, efficiency, competitiveness and proactively integrate internationally," Mr. Nguyen Tuan Thanh emphasized.

On this occasion, the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance awarded the emulation flag to Bong Son People's Credit Fund (Hoai Nhon town) for its excellent performance in completing its tasks in 2022; awarded certificates of merit to 11 collectives and 17 individuals with outstanding achievements in building and developing the collective economy and cooperatives in the period of 2021-2023.

The Provincial People's Committee awarded emulation flags to Hoai Huong People's Credit Fund (Hoai Nhon town) and An Tin Agricultural Cooperative (Hoai An district) for their comprehensive excellent achievements, leading the emulation movement of agricultural cooperatives in 2022; awarded certificates of merit to 9 collectives with outstanding achievements, contributing to the development of collective economy and cooperatives in the period of 2021-2023 and 10 individuals with good achievements, contributing to the development of the Provincial Cooperative Union on the occasion of its 30th anniversary.
