Hong Kong's Commerce and Economic Development Bureau Secretary Yau Ying-wah said that the authorities are still actively promoting RCEP accession.
The Chinese government and ASEAN member countries all support Hong Kong's accession to the agreement.
However, since RCEP has just officially come into full effect (June 2), it is necessary to prioritize the handling of the corresponding work, and then consider approving Hong Kong's application.
The 15 RCEP member countries are all important trading partners of Hong Kong. Therefore, during his recent visit to Japan, Mr. Chiu also reiterated the Special Administrative Region's desire to join RCEP as soon as possible.
