There are still more than 590,000 cars that have run out of money in their automatic toll collection (ETC) accounts, which is one of the reasons for congestion at toll stations.
A representative of the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) has just announced that in 2024, the four expressways managed by VEC, including Noi Bai - Lao Cai, Cau Gie - Ninh Binh, Da Nang - Quang Ngai, and Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay, will serve more than 67.4 million vehicles.
Of which, the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway continues to have the highest traffic volume of 23.2 million vehicles per year.
According to records, congestion still occurs on some highways during holidays, Tet and weekends. The cause is due to the sudden increase in traffic volume and traffic incidents and collisions, such as: Cau Gie - Ninh Binh, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay.
In particular, the section from Km12+000 - Km 23+000 from Long Thanh to Ho Chi Minh City and the section from Km4+000 - Km12+000 from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh often experiences traffic jams, even in the morning and afternoon.
Notably, VEC representatives informed that there are still vehicles running out of money in their ETC toll accounts. Specifically, during the year, there were still more than 590,000 vehicles running out of money in their accounts. This is one of the reasons leading to congestion and traffic insecurity when vehicles travel through toll stations at high speeds.
