(To Quoc) - The drum festival and concert "One Beat, One World: Connecting Through Drums" organized by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and Chinachem Group attracted more than 31,000 spectators, becoming a prominent cultural highlight of Hong Kong.
The series of events concluded with great success on December 8 at Art Park, West Kowloon Cultural District.
This year's program brings together top drummers and dancers from around the world, creating a unique musical and cultural space. In addition, many high-ranking officials, including Chief Secretary for Administration Chan Kwok-ki, representative of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vivian Sum Fong-kwang, and members of the Legislative Council, will attend.
In particular, superstar Aaron Kwok Fu-shing's appearance as Honorary Ambassador of the Hong Kong Drum Festival further added to the event's appeal.
The event attracted many high-ranking officials and honored guests.
Ms Celina Chin, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, emphasised the festival’s mission of connecting the community through music: “Since 2003, we have been promoting cultural harmony and community cohesion through drumming. This year’s festival continues to spread this spirit to be worthy of our mission of making Hong Kong an international cultural melting pot.”
Diverse activities, rich experiences
The festival started at noon with a series of cultural and culinary activities, attracting the participation of many consulates such as Japan, Vietnam, India, Hungary, and Egypt. Visitors not only enjoyed diverse international cuisine but also experienced the unique culture of each country.
A special highlight is the giant 3.47-meter-tall Peace Drum, where everyone joins in the rhythm. Lion dance teams, intangible cultural heritage drum groups from Shaanxi and Lanzhou, and local organizations stir up the festive atmosphere with special performances right in the park.
In addition, the event offers a variety of activities such as games, drumming experiences and booths suitable for all ages, making Sunday an unforgettable memory for thousands of families attending.
The evening concert was the highlight of the event, with powerful drum beats and melodies echoing across Victoria’s coastline. The Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, conducted by Chew Hee-chiat, joined drummers and dancers from Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Xinjiang, and India to deliver a vibrant performance.
The audience was given hand drums to join in the rhythm, creating a vibrant and connected atmosphere. Notably, the show was broadcast live via 5.5G network – a first for an outdoor concert in Hong Kong – bringing super-sharp 4K images to global viewers.
Affirming Hong Kong's role as a cultural center
The “One Beat, One World” event series is not limited to the Art Park but also travels through 18 districts across the city, with drumming workshops for children, seniors, ethnic minorities and disadvantaged youth.
“Art has the power to unite people and enhance the quality of life. We are proud to partner with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra to host such a meaningful community and cultural event,” said Sylvia Chung, Director of Business Impact at Chinachem Group.
The event is not only a music festival but also a cultural bridge, affirming Hong Kong’s role as a global cultural exchange center. With this brilliant success, “One Beat, One World” has left a strong impression on the public and continues to spread the spirit of solidarity through music./.
