On the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit themed "BRICS and the Global South: Building a Better World Together" in Kazan, Russia on October 23 and 24, Chinese newspapers expressed great expectations for the results of the Summit.

Specifically, on October 22, Xinhua News Agency published an article with the title: "BRICS cooperation becomes closer, promising comprehensive development".

In particular, Xinhua News Agency affirmed that BRICS is not only a mechanism for political and economic cooperation but also a multinational platform, aiming at common goals of development and prosperity. The expansion of BRICS is bringing “a new source of energy and perspective” by prioritizing the needs and aspirations of the countries of the Southern Hemisphere.

Since its inception, BRICS has prioritized open dialogue, consensus-building and mutual respect, which are essential principles for addressing complex global challenges such as climate change, public health crises and sustainable development,” Xinhua wrote. “As the BRICS family grows stronger, this will not only deepen trust among member states, but also ensure that BRICS solutions can meet the needs and aspirations of members within and outside the bloc.”

According to Xinhua, the expansion of BRICS not only strengthens the members' commitment to the organization's inclusiveness, but also expands the participation of new members from different political and economic backgrounds. This helps ensure that the voices of underrepresented countries have more weight in global affairs.

"As the world increasingly demands cooperation, the expansion of BRICS offers a vision based on the belief that common development and sustainable progress require cooperation among countries, regardless of size," Xinhua said.

Similarly, the Global Times wrote: "The expanded BRICS summit is a development express train for the Southern Hemisphere countries."

In the article, Global Times compared the expanded BRICS bloc to the “locomotive” of the Southern Hemisphere, in which member countries not only hold advantages in scale, but also in resources and growth. According to the news site, the economic output calculated by purchasing power parity of BRICS countries has surpassed the G7 group, becoming the main driver of global economic growth.

The Global Times asserted: “The BRICS cooperation mechanism has established an important platform for member countries to optimize resource allocation and share development opportunities, and is further expanding into advanced fields such as green development, aerospace and biotechnology. Thanks to the existing achievements of BRICS, coupled with systematic and institutional cooperation, more and more countries in the Southern Hemisphere have realized that the BRICS mechanism is an “unmissable” express train.”

According to the Global Times, the "BRICS express train" not only carries the development hopes of the Southern Hemisphere, but also plays a pivotal role in maintaining and defending multilateralism. "As the locomotive of the Southern Hemisphere and the driving force of the world's economic recovery, the expanded BRICS conference is gaining increasingly profound influence and attracting more and more attention," the newspaper wrote.

Meanwhile, the People's Daily recently published an interview with Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui. In the interview, Ambassador Zhang affirmed that the expanded cooperation of BRICS will contribute more to improving the global governance system.

“As the BRICS mechanism enters a new era of greater cooperation, BRICS members will continue to pursue modernization together, contribute more to improving the global governance system, and provide “BRICS solutions” to the major transformations taking place around the world,” Ambassador Zhang shared.

At the same time, according to Ambassador Zhang, in the context of emerging markets and developing countries gradually gaining global status, BRICS has also become stronger, more influential and has more potential with recent expansion.

Affirming China's role at this BRICS conference, Ambassador Zhang said: "China will continue to work closely with the members of the BRICS plus bloc to build a more comprehensive, closer, more practical and higher-quality partnership so that we can together embark on a new journey for BRICS."

At the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, BRICS Chair 2024, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh led a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the BRICS Leaders' Meeting in Kazan (Russia) from October 23-24.

At the conference in Kazan, Russia will welcome more than 30 delegations from countries, including 24 senior leaders.

BRICS cooperation is based on three pillars, including political-security cooperation, economic-financial cooperation, culture and people-to-people exchange. The BRICS Leaders' Meeting Plus is a mechanism for non-member countries to attend as guests.

Vietnam and Russia established a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2012. In June, President Putin paid a state visit to Vietnam. The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of economics, trade, security and defense, especially infrastructure and energy.
