Agribank Quang Ninh branch staff support customers to update biometric information on mobile phones.

Since the beginning of June 2024, Agribank Quang Ninh branch has invested in equipment at transaction counters, provided professional training for officers and employees, and launched the Agribank plus application with updated biometric information installation features. At the same time, customers are informed about the State Bank's regulations on updating biometric information or new identification documents in place of ID cards in many forms such as: Documents, billboards, posters, messages, etc. To ensure that customers' transactions are not interrupted, smooth and convenient, the unit has sent officers and employees to agencies and units using payroll services to support installation. In addition, the unit also arranges to work outside of office hours, including Saturdays and Sundays, to meet the needs of installing biometric information or updating new identification documents. Currently, the unit has installed biometric information for over 42,000 customers, thereby enhancing security and safety for financial transactions, especially in the context of increasingly popular online transactions.

According to the regulations of the State Bank, from January 1, 2025,   Individual customers who have not updated their biometric information will only be able to use their physical cards to withdraw money at ATMs and make transactions at POS machines. Other transactions, including online payments, QR code withdrawals at ATMs, and other electronic card transactions, will be suspended. In addition, according to the 2023 Law on Identification, 9- or 12-digit identity cards will no longer be valid from January 1, 2025. Therefore, customers who have not updated their new identity documents will have all transactions, including at the counter, online, and ATM, suspended.

This regulation will also apply to corporate customers from July 1, 2025. Information can be updated directly on the Mobile Banking application or at the bank's transaction points. Therefore, in addition to implementing support solutions, banks are also actively optimizing applications to help customers proactively implement. For example, MBBank Quang Ninh has updated, disseminated, and guided the implementation of the biometric feature on the phone application to help customers who are having difficulty updating biometrics to ask relatives to scan their biometrics at home without having to go to the transaction counter. As long as customers have fully updated their online profile and biometric profile in the "Identification documents" section, customers can use their own MBBank application, select the "Biometrics with association" feature in the "More" section to update biometric data to help relatives and friends easily in 2 minutes. This feature is especially useful for children, relatives, and friends who can help update each other's biometrics without worrying about their phones not supporting NFC technology.

Customers are supported to update biometric information at the transaction counter.

Mr. Thai Manh Cuong, Deputy Director of the State Bank of Vietnam, Quang Ninh Branch, said: The province currently has 3.4 million personal accounts, of which 2.5 million are active. Recently, the number of online payment transactions has increased sharply in the area by about 35% compared to the same period last year. Therefore, updating biometric information is an important solution to minimize the possibility of fraud, scams, and risks during transactions, and at the same time, is an important defense step, helping each customer build a barrier to protect their accounts. The State Bank of Vietnam, Quang Ninh Branch, has issued a document directing banks in the province to proactively inform, support, and update biometric information and new identification documents for customers from the beginning of December, thereby minimizing disruptions, congestion, and risks during the peak payment period in the last months of this year. At the same time, banks are required to take responsibility if fraud, scams, or counterfeiting occurs that affects customers.
