After many discussions, the KFA announced the dismissal of coach Jurgen Klinsmann on February 16. The German coach was judged to have not done a good job when he could not help the Korean team win the Asian Cup championship after 64 years of waiting despite owning the "golden generation" of Son Heung-min, Lee Kang-in and Kim Min-jae. Not only that, coach Jurgen Klinsmann's superficial attitude in working also made Korean fans angry.

However, in an interview with Der Spiegel on February 17, coach Jurgen Klinsmann unexpectedly said that he was very proud of the 2023 Asian Cup and considered himself successful. The coach born in 1959 said: “From a sporting perspective, what I experienced with the Korean team was a successful result. In particular, at the Asian Cup, the round of 16 match with Saudi Arabia and the quarter-final match with Australia were dramatic matches. The developments in these two matches were very exciting.”

When asked by a Der Spiegel reporter about the scuffle between Son Heung-min and Lee Kang-in, coach Jurgen Klinsmann refused to comment. Instead, he praised the spirit of the Korean team.

“Although they did not win the championship, the Korean team showed that they are the winners in terms of fighting spirit. Perhaps after the difficult matches, the Korean team has learned many lessons. The players have instilled the spirit of never giving up in the team. They always give their all on the field, that is the best thing. Korean fans should be proud of that,” coach Jurgen Klinsmann continued.

Coach Jurgen Klinsmann believes he has been successful with the Korean team despite being fired.

After the answers of coach Jurgen Klinsmann in Der Spiegel , Korean fans as well as newspapers in the "Kimchi Land" are showing their anger. They quoted the German coach's words and harshly criticized him.

OSEN commented: “Coach Jurgen Klinsmann is praising himself in the German media. In the face of the panic in the Korean team, he still appears happy as if nothing happened even though he was fired just a day before.

According to German media updates, coach Jurgen Klinsmann returned home to California (USA) in a relaxed mood. Instead of apologizing and expressing condolences to Korean fans, coach Jurgen Klinsmann showed pride in reaching the semi-finals - an achievement that, in his unreasonable assessment, was a success.

Star News also criticized coach Jurgen Klinsmann's statement: "Former coach of the Korean national team - Jurgen Klinsmann is shameless to call the achievement at the 2023 Asian Cup a success. He was just fired on February 16, but just 1 day later, an interview defending himself was released. It is not known if there was any preparation or not.

The German coach's departure has left the Korean national team in chaos. We have a lot of discord in the team and this could affect the upcoming tournaments. Coach Jurgen Klinsmann's statement is hurting Korean fans even more."

Coach Jurgen Klinsmann's statement is making Korean fans and media angry.

Not only coach Jurgen Klinsmann, Mr. Andreas Herzog - who is considered the "right-hand man" of coach Jurgen Klinsmann also unexpectedly accepted an interview with the Kronenzeitung (Austria). Mr. Andreas Herzog said that the conflict between Son Heung-min and Lee Kang-in destroyed all the achievements that coach Jurgen Klinsmann had with the Korean team.

Mr. Andreas Herzog (right) also unexpectedly criticized the Korean team.

“The mental battle between Son Heung-min and Lee Kang-in clearly affected the team’s play. It was a scene I only saw at the training ground, I have never experienced something like this in a match.

The conflict only lasted a few minutes but affected what we had been doing for several months. Everything that coach Jurgen Klinsmann and I had worked so hard to build completely collapsed,” said Andreas Herzog.
