Meeting Cambodia at Go Dau Stadium (Binh Duong), the Vietnamese team led by coach Kim Sang-sik was considered superior. Right in the first half, Hai Long and Van Vi brought joy to the home team with goals in the 26th and 35th minutes respectively. However, after two early goals, the Vietnamese team suddenly slowed down, creating conditions for Cambodia to regain control of the game and have many dangerous attacks. In the 64th minute, Samuel Bong forced goalkeeper Dinh Trieu to pick the ball out of the net after a powerful kick.
In the last 20 minutes, coach Kim Sang-sik made many changes but the Vietnamese team still did not have many options to attack. The score of 2-1 in favor of the "Golden Star Warriors" was also maintained until the end of the match.
Highlight Vietnam 2-1 Cambodia: Win but not really convincing
Defeating Cambodia 2-1, the Vietnamese team went through a streak of 12 consecutive unbeaten matches. However, the 1-goal victory over the much-underrated Cambodia team clearly left fans dissatisfied. After the match, coach Kim Sang-sik expressed: “In the first half, I arranged for Quang Hai to play as an attacking midfielder and in the middle. As we had prepared, Hai Long scored. We showed what we had prepared. In the second half, the pressure increased, we had problems neutralizing Cambodia. In addition, Quang Hai suffered a slight injury in the second half and when replacing a reserve player, it also made it difficult to deploy the ball.”

Notably, in the first half, coach Kim Sang-sik made an early change by bringing Van Vi in to replace Trieu Viet Hung right after Hai Long opened the score. When asked about this adjustment, he commented: “The reason for changing Viet Hung is that I think he hasn’t performed as well as he did in practice. I think he’s excited about playing for the national team. When Van Vi came on, he helped the team a lot.”
Reporter: The moment Hoang Duc slipped, how did you feel? Were you worried when Hoang Duc was rolling around on the field?
Coach Kim Sang-sik : Generally, coaches always feel worried when a player slips or falls. At that moment, I felt worried. I hoped it wasn't a serious injury. Hoang Duc is important to the team. When he feels like he has a problem or can't play, I bring in a replacement to make sure.
Why didn't coach Kim use Ly Duc, what did Hai Long say?
In addition to revealing the early withdrawal of Trieu Viet Hung, coach Kim Sang-sik also talked about not using young player Ly Duc even though this was just a friendly match. He shared: "Currently there are not many changes in the squad, I want to use many experienced players, they are also performing well."
After the 2-1 victory over Cambodia, the Vietnamese team will continue to stay in Binh Duong to prepare for the 2027 Asian Cup qualifying match against Laos on March 25. Although Laos is rated lower than the Vietnamese team, coach Kim Sang-sik assessed that the whole team must prepare carefully.
"The Vietnamese team needs to prepare for the match against Laos. I will analyze and help the players gain experience. At the same time, I will create opportunities for the players to learn. Currently, many players have good physical strength, I think that is necessary preparation for the match against Laos," coach Kim Sang-sik added.

In the 2-1 victory of the Vietnamese team against Cambodia, midfielder Hai Long had a beautiful free kick, opening the score of the match. When asked about this moment, the player wearing the Hanoi FC shirt shared: "This is my third goal for the Vietnamese team. I tried to concentrate to be able to shoot the ball according to what I had practiced. Luckily, it was successful. Today I am healthy and started from the beginning. In the next match, if given the opportunity, I will still try my best."
