The Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway project is over 57km long, passing through Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City and Long An. This is a national key project on the North – South Expressway axis, and is also the largest expressway project in the South with a total initial investment of over 31,000 billion VND.
The 3.4km expressway section through Ho Chi Minh City (from National Highway 1 to the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong intersection) has basically completed items such as asphalt paving, lane markings, sign systems, etc. and is expected to open to traffic by the end of this year.
The Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway project started in 2014 and was expected to be completed in 5 years. After that, the project encountered many difficulties in investment policies and capital sources, so it was stopped when 80% of the work was completed. Recently, some problems have been resolved and the bidding packages have been re-implemented.
At the intersection between the expressway and Highway 1, the entrances to Highway 1 have been completed with asphalt and painted road markings.
Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway is built with a 24m wide road surface with 4 lanes and 2 emergency lanes, maximum speed 100km/h.
Toll stations at highway exits are being installed.
According to Dan Tri reporter, at the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway construction site, dozens of workers are busy working.
Signs and signage on this highway section have also been installed.
The system of protection nets for highways, roads, and residential tunnels is basically completed.
The first section of the expressway, which has more than 300m of road belonging to the Ring Road 3 project under construction by Long An province, has not yet been completed. Long An province has directed contractors to complete it soon to synchronize with the route.
The first 3.4km section of the Ben Luc – Long Thanh expressway, once put into operation, will help cars from National Highway 1 to the Ho Chi Minh City – Trung Luong expressway without having to go through the Binh Thuan overpass junction 5km away, reducing traffic congestion in the area.
Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway is a key road project in the South, helping inter-regional traffic in the West and Southeast without having to “transit” Ho Chi Minh City, reducing traffic congestion on Highway 51, connecting directly to the expressway – national highway network, with the Hiep Phuoc, Thi Vai – Cai Mep seaport system and Long Thanh international airport.
