Since 2018, the implementation of the Emulation Movement to build "5 Good Military Medical Units" has encountered many difficulties due to non-traditional security challenges, especially the Covid-19 pandemic and the negative aspects of the market mechanism.
However, the more difficult the situation, the more the officers, staff and soldiers of the military medical sector uphold the spirit of solidarity, ready to take the lead on the front line, excellently complete their tasks; proactively, creatively, conquer the heights of medicine, improve the quality of care and protection of the health of soldiers and people, and fulfill their obligations to international friends...
Strong development in the lines
Major General, Professor, Doctor Nguyen Truong Giang, Director of the Military Medical Department (General Department of Logistics) assessed: Over the past 5 years, the PTTĐ has built "5 good military medical units" which have contributed to creating positive changes in all aspects of the military medical sector, and the military medical lines have developed strongly and synchronously. The infirmary system from the regimental, brigade, division and equivalent levels continues to be invested in and supplemented with modern and necessary medical equipment, serving the diagnosis and treatment of soldiers and people; the quality of emergency and treatment at the military medical unit level has been increasingly improved. The grassroots military medical line has been able to master the techniques according to the specialized division, including some intermediate surgeries; at the same time, it has done a good job of detecting and handling complicated emergency cases; the B-level hospitals have performed some techniques of the upper level.

Learning about this content, we were told by Lieutenant Colonel Vu Xuan Dinh, Battalion Commander of the 24th Medical Battalion, Division 325 (Corps 2) that in recent years, the superiors have invested in the unit with many types of modern equipment, such as 3D color ultrasound machines, helping doctors detect early and promptly treat many dangerous diseases. Lieutenant Colonel Truong Quang Thang, Deputy Director of Military Hospital 4 (Military Region 4) excitedly shared: "Currently, the Hospital has invested in modern and synchronous machinery and equipment; the staff and employees are regularly trained and educated, so they have mastered many techniques that previously only the Central level could perform. Thanks to that, the rate of referral has decreased significantly".

For the Army's final hospitals, from 2018 to now, there has been strong development, especially in specialized techniques such as plastic surgery, orthopedics, limb transplantation; capable of implementing complex disease treatment techniques... In particular, some hospitals have developed specialized techniques, equivalent to the level of countries with advanced medicine in the region. In particular, the 108 Military Central Hospital can perform many types of complex liver transplants; has transferred liver transplant techniques to many hospitals across the country and coordinated to successfully perform a liver transplant for a child with cancer, the first time conducted in Vietnam.

Currently, the military medical sector is effectively operating 10 military-civilian hospitals, 5 military-civilian medical centers in island districts, 34 military-civilian infirmaries and 835 military-civilian medical stations, providing emergency care and treatment for people across the country. On remote islands such as Truong Sa archipelago, military-civilian infirmaries and medical centers are truly a solid support for soldiers and fishermen. Over the past 5 years, the military medical force on Truong Sa archipelago has examined, treated and provided free medicine to more than 700,000 people, and provided emergency care to 232 seriously ill patients.
Lieutenant Colonel Bui Dinh Khai, Head of the Military Medical Department, Logistics Department of the Border Guard (BĐBP), shared that the BĐBP military medical force currently has 125 clinics and military-civilian medical infirmaries at border posts along the border, making an important contribution to medical examination, treatment, and health care for soldiers, people in border areas, and even people from neighboring countries. Since 2018, on the Vietnam-Cambodia border alone, the BĐBP has invested tens of billions of VND to build more military-civilian medical stations.
People across the country highly appreciate the spirit of volunteering to go to the front line, to difficult areas of the military medical staff, especially when the Covid-19 pandemic is complicated. Since 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic broke out nationwide, the military medical force has joined the entire army to establish 194 quarantine facilities and field hospitals, testing and treating hundreds of thousands of people. When the Covid-19 pandemic was complicated in Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces, thousands of officers, employees and military medical students enthusiastically set out to perform the task of preventing and fighting the epidemic, working in the most dangerous places such as infectious disease field hospitals, mobile military medical teams going to each family to test, treat and vaccinate people against Covid-19...
At a departure ceremony of the delegation of officers and students of the Military Medical Academy to the South to fight the Covid-19 epidemic, General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense, emotionally spoke: “We have gone through many long marches to protect this country and its mountains and rivers. This is a new long march, a new war... I am proud to have doctors and medical soldiers in the Vietnam People's Army, comrades who have enough qualifications, capacity, and ability for us to fight this Covid-19 epidemic...”.

It can be affirmed that the results achieved in the PTTĐ building the "5-good military medical unit" in the period of 2018-2022 are extremely important. According to Major General, Professor, Doctor Nguyen Truong Giang, in the coming time, officers, employees and soldiers of the military medical sector will continue to promote the spirit of solidarity, proactive creativity, constantly strive to improve medical ethics and medical skills, determined to successfully implement the contents of the PTTĐ, contributing to building the military medical sector "Strong in organization and mobility; good in professional expertise, solid in political ideology and medical ethics", well meeting the requirements of tasks in the new situation.
From 2018 to 2022, the military medical sector has had many individuals awarded noble titles and awards; many collectives and individuals were awarded the Emulation Flag of the Government, the Ministry of National Defense and Certificates of Merit of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Health... In the "war" against the Covid-19 pandemic, the military medical sector has 151 collectives and individuals awarded the Fatherland Protection Medal, the Feat of Arms Medal, the Labor Medal; 229 collectives and individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Prime Minister; more than 3,000 collectives and individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Minister of National Defense... |
