Đường giao thông ở bản 4, xã Vình Ô, huyện Vĩnh Linh đã thông tuyến nhờ hộ gia đình anh Hồ Văn Dinh hiến đất.
The traffic route in village 4, Vinh O commune, Vinh Linh district has been opened thanks to the land donation of Mr. Ho Van Dinh's family.

Beautiful gesture of two brothers

For the common good, two Bru-Van Kieu brothers, Ho Van Dinh and Ho Van Sang in Vinh O commune, Vinh Linh district (Quang Tri) discussed donating land to open a road.

Belonging to the poor and near-poor households, land is the most valuable asset of the two families Ho Van Dinh and Ho Van Sang, but when Vinh O commune had a policy to open roads for people and production, Ho Van Dinh (born in 1984, in Ban 4) and his younger brother Ho Van Sang (born in 1993, in Ban 3) voluntarily donated land to open roads.

The story started in 2022, Vinh Linh district allocated nearly 600 million VND from the capital of the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority Areas for the period 2021-2030, Phase I from 2021-2025 (National Target Program 1719) for Vinh O commune to plan and build an intra-village road connecting Vinh O Kindergarten in Village 4, passing through a residential area, 500m long and 4m wide.

During the land clearance process, Mr. Dinh's family was most affected as the road passed through nearly 1/3 of his family's land. In particular, on this land area, Mr. Dinh was preparing to build a solid house to replace the dilapidated house where his family had been living for a long time. When the Vinh O commune Party Committee and government explained and persuaded him about the need to open the road, he was hesitant, but still decided to donate the land to open the road.

Sharing with reporters, Mr. Ho Van Dinh said: "Land is a valuable asset, but when explained about the importance of opening the road, for the common good, my family agreed to donate land to open the road."

Mr. Dinh further explained that if the commune did not agree to hand over the land, it would not be able to build the road. The villagers and children in this area would have to endure the hardship of going around to get to the main road to go to work and school. Thinking of this, I discussed with my family to donate nearly 500 square meters of land to open the road.

After donating the land, the remaining land area of Mr. Dinh's family became narrower and lower than the road surface. Mr. Dinh calculated and added more land to build a small house for his family. Thanks to Mr. Dinh's act of charity, the internal road project of Ban 4 residential area was completed on the occasion of the Lunar New Year of Quy Mao in 2023.

Also in 2022, when Vinh O commune invested in building a road to the production area between Ban 3 and Ban 4 with a budget of 562 million VND from the National Target Program 1719. The difficulty of Vinh O commune is that the project has no resources allocated for site clearance. When the local government clearly explained the scale and investment capital of the project, Mr. Ho Van Sang (Mr. Dinh's younger brother) voluntarily donated 500 m2 of rice fields with 2 crops per year to open the road to the production area. Before that, Mr. Ho Van Dinh had discussed many times with his younger brother to accept sacrificing the family's personal interests to open the road for the benefit of the community.

Not only is he a typical household that completed the handover of the site early, in his role as Secretary of the Youth Union, Mr. Sang and the local authorities actively went to each household that was still hesitant and did not agree. From his persistent persuasion, and seeing his family as an exemplary family donating the entire area of land right next to the main road, many households in Ban 3 and Ban 4 also supported, such as Mr. Ho Van Thin, Ho Van Bon, Ho Van Loi, Ho Van Than... Thanks to that, in November 2022, the road to the production area between Ban 3 and Ban 4 was built, and has now been completed and put into use, creating great convenience for people in the production process.

The sacrifice of a disabled mother and daughter for the community

Ms. Le Thi Lien (born in 1961), in Quarter 8, Gio Linh Town, Gio Linh District, is disabled in her hands, with a disability rate of 61%. Her son is disabled in both hands and feet, making it very difficult for him to walk. In order to have a normal life like everyone else, the mother and son have tried many times harder. Although life is still difficult and arduous, the mother and son have donated land many times to expand roads, contributing to the construction of a civilized urban area.

Ms. Le Thi Lien has donated land twice to make the residential road wider.

In 2017, when Ward 8 had a policy of mobilizing people to donate land to open roads and build smart cities, at that time, around Ms. Le Thi Lien's family compound, there were 2 roads passing through (one road in front of the house, one road on the side of the house).

With the encouragement of the government, Ms. Lien and Mr. Trung agreed to donate land to widen both roads. Accordingly, the road in front of her family donated land 28m long and 1.5m wide. As for the road next to her house, Ms. Lien donated land 31m long and 1.5m wide. In 2023, when the local government came to persuade her, she and her son did not hesitate to donate another 0.7m of land to widen and straighten the street in the neighborhood.

Ms. Lien said that since donating land and expanding the road, her family and the people here no longer have to deal with slippery, muddy conditions when it rains. “Previously, both roads passing by my house were dirt roads, very narrow, difficult for motorbikes to travel, and cars could not enter. It was dusty in the dry season, slippery in the rainy season, my mother and I fell many times. Now, both roads are 5-6m wide, convenient for vehicles to travel, and people are more secure,” Ms. Lien said.

After Ms. Lien donated her land, associations and organizations in Ward 8 mobilized 20 surrounding households to contribute money and labor to buy materials and rebuild the fence for her family.

Mr. Hoang Hiep, Head of Ward 8, said: “Mrs. Lien’s family life is still full of difficulties, but the locality always recognizes her and her children’s spirit of community service. This is an example that deserves to be commended.”

The national target program on new rural construction and socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas has been devoting a lot of resources to building infrastructure in rural and mountainous areas. During the implementation process, many ethnic minority households and rural farming households have become shining examples of donating land to open roads. This is the most vivid manifestation of the consensus and unanimity of all classes of people towards the policies and guidelines that our Party and State have been implementing. It is also a great premise for the policies and guidelines that our Party and State have been implementing to achieve victory for the goal of "rich people, strong country".
