32 households in Ha Linh commune, Huong Khe district (Ha Tinh) voluntarily donated more than 3,200 square meters of land for the project to build an anti-erosion embankment with a total investment of 65 billion VND.

For many years now, the banks of the Ngan Sau River, running through villages 2 and 5 in Ha Linh commune, Huong Khe district, Ha Tinh province, have suffered serious landslides during the rainy season.

The houses of the people in the mountainous commune of Ha Linh, located close to the banks of the Ngan Sau River, are often worried when the flood season comes and the Ngan Sau River swallows their houses.

The landslides threaten the safety of hundreds of households and local infrastructure such as kindergartens, health stations, markets and district roads. Therefore, the people and the commune authorities have repeatedly petitioned their superiors for urgent solutions to prevent landslides.

As one of 32 households directly affected by the landslide incident on the Ngan Sau riverbank during the rainy season, for many years, Ms. Nguyen Thi Duyen (Ha Linh commune) and her husband and 3 young children have lived in fear and anxiety as the riverbank landslide situation has become serious.

According to Ms. Duyen, in the past, the distance from the local people's houses to the riverbank was more than 20m. Every flood season, people had to witness the Ngan Sau River "swallowing" a lot of land, the riverbed expanding more and more.

The Ngan Sau river embankment project has a total investment of 65 billion VND. The project implementation has made local people very excited.

To date, the landslide is only about 7 meters from Ms. Duyen’s family kitchen. People have long been hoping that the government will take urgent measures to prevent landslides; otherwise, their land and houses will be swept away by the raging water during the flood season.

Around mid-October, Ms. Duyen and the locals were delighted to hear that the People's Committee of Huong Khe District would launch an urgent project to build an embankment to prevent landslides. To implement the project, the government needed the people's consent to donate land.

"My husband and I donated 300 square meters of land for the contractor to construct the embankment project. This is a joy not only for our family but also for many households living along the Ngan Sau River," Ms. Duyen happily said.

Mr. Bui Ngoc Du, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ha Linh Commune, Huong Khe District, said that after the Ngan Sau River embankment project, people were very excited and no longer worried about the flood season.

According to Mr. Du, the project was implemented from October 31 with a total investment of 65 billion VND, of which 60 billion VND is from the central budget, the remaining amount is the district's counterpart capital.

In terms of scale, the embankment consists of 2 sections with a total length of more than 1.5km. Of which, the embankment section through village 2 is 643m long, the embankment section through village 5, Ha Linh commune is 887m long.
