Hezbollah said it had launched "precision-guided missiles" into Israeli territory in response to attacks that killed three of its members.
"Hezbollah guided missiles targeted enemy positions across the border. This action is a harsh response to the attacks that led to the deaths of some of our brothers," the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah said in a statement today.
The group also vowed to respond "decisively" to attacks on Lebanese territory, especially those that cause casualties.
The Israeli military earlier said an outpost near the northern town of Arab al-Aramshe was attacked with anti-tank fire, but did not specify casualties.
The Israeli military then fired artillery at southern Lebanese towns in response. Residents of Rmeish said Israeli shells landed around the town. A security source told Reuters that Israeli shells were targeting a Hezbollah rocket launch site near the southern village of Dhayra.
"The Dhayra neighborhood is being shelled by enemy artillery, while the village of Yarin is being targeted with phosphorus shells," the Lebanese news agency reported.

Hezbollah and Hamas, the group that controls the Gaza Strip, both said on October 10 that they had launched several rockets and missiles into Israel from the direction of Lebanon.
After Israel declared a state of war and launched a retaliatory campaign against the Gaza Strip, Hamas called on all Palestinians to take up arms and fight, and asked for support from Muslim organizations and Arab countries in the region.
Hezbollah responded to the call on October 8 by firing mortars at three positions in the Israeli-controlled Shebaa region, saying the attack was a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people. The Israeli military responded by shelling southern Lebanon, then deployed drones to neutralize a Hezbollah position in the Shebaa region.
Lebanon and Israel are enemies and tensions between the two have been rising since the Hamas attack. Hezbollah said on October 9 that three of its members were killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon.
The US warned Hezbollah that opening a "second front" against Israel as it deals with Hamas would be a "wrong decision" and affirmed its commitment to supporting Israel's defense.
