When children are at home, the carelessness and negligence of adults can put children in danger, potentially causing accidents to themselves or those around them. Many fires and accidents occur due to children when adults are not at home. Children are often curious, playing with electrical equipment, causing fires. Sometimes, children even injure themselves, get burned, and bleed from their limbs due to hyperactivity; not to mention many fires that have killed children and caused great damage to property. Investigations show that the cause is mostly due to relatives locking the door, so children should not be left alone at home and locked for any reason.
In case you have to leave your child home alone without anyone around, the City Police note some measures to minimize the risk of fire and explosions for young children.
For parents, the City Police remind that it is absolutely forbidden to lock children in the house without leaving them the key; the main door key should be placed in a designated place or within reach of children so that they can quickly find the key and open the door in case of fire or other incidents.
Parents should always prepare food for their children before leaving the house, do not let them cook by themselves and do not let them come into contact with fire-generating or heat-generating devices. At the same time, parents should also call their children at least every 2 hours, if the house has a camera, they should regularly monitor their children through the camera; tell children to absolutely not go out or play in the balcony area, areas with dangerous heights. Parents should proactively check, lock the gas tank, turn off the water heater, electric stove and electrical appliances when not in use; use tape to cover electrical outlets that children can easily access in the house; teach children to recognize electrical appliances and dangerous objects, strictly prohibit children from touching them.
Parents should remind children to turn off unnecessary electrical appliances before going to bed; do not let children burn votive paper; limit children from using stoves for cooking to prevent fires and burns; do not let children use irons, electric stoves, dryers, and other heat-generating appliances; children's negligence can lead to a serious risk of fire.
Hanoi City Police recommends that parents proactively create conditions for children to participate in life skills training classes, training courses, fire prevention and fighting and rescue skills instruction organized by units and functional agencies. Parents should regularly train and teach children life skills, escape skills, and safety skills in case of dangerous incidents, fires and explosions; instruct children on how to stop bleeding themselves and prepare bandages, gauze, etc.
In particular, parents must teach their children survival skills in case of fire. Specifically, when they smell burning, smoke or see fire, they must immediately run to the smoke area, shout to notify adults and immediately call the fire department at 114. If trapped in a fire with adults nearby, children must calmly listen to the instructions of the adults present. Parents must show their children the possible exits in case of fire; try to get out as quickly as possible; absolutely do not linger to carry things or call the fire department while the fire is developing strongly.
If the family lives in a high-rise building or apartment complex, parents should teach their children to never use the elevator to go downstairs because the elevator may stop due to a power outage in the event of a fire. If the family is closer to the top floor, parents should teach their children to go upstairs instead of downstairs; to avoid suffocation from smoke, move out by crawling close to the ground, covering the mouth and nose with a wet towel or cloth, or wearing a wet jacket if possible; when hair or clothes catch fire, stop, lie down and roll back and forth or roll to put out the fire; if trapped in a room and cannot get out, use wet towels or cloth to tightly cover the cracks in the door to prevent smoke from entering, then crawl under the bed and lie close to the floor...
