This is one of the activities of the Canadian Navy visiting ports in Asia - Pacific, aiming to increase presence in the region and support international naval exercises with partner countries; at the same time, establish and strengthen defense partnerships, enhance coordination and defense operations capabilities for future operations.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Blair Saltel, commanding officer of the Calgary, the highlight of the visit is the maritime exercise with the Vietnamese Navy to expand and improve the Canadian Navy's network of defense partnerships in the region.
Calgary is a Halifax-class destroyer that has just completed a comprehensive combat system modernization program, and its 230 sailors have just participated in the world's largest international maritime exercise RIMPAC (Rim of the Pacific).
