HAGL goes backwards
The 1-1 draw against Binh Dinh Club can be understood as HAGL losing 2 points, rather than gaining 1 point in round 13 of V-League 2024 - 2025. The mountain town team could not take advantage of the moment when the away team Binh Dinh was at its weakest in the past few years to win, despite playing at home.
The misstep in round 13 left HAGL stuck in 8th place. Despite an impressive start to the season with the top spot after 3 rounds, Minh Vuong and his teammates ended the first half of the rankings in the bottom half.
HAGL only got 1 point against Binh Dinh Club
The 17 points after 13 matches cannot make HAGL feel secure. According to statistics of the last 10 seasons, the threshold for relegation in the V-League is usually around 27 to 29 points. That means the Pleiku home team needs about 10 to 12 more points to be sure to stay in the V-League.
If based on the early season performance, when HAGL won 11 points after the first 5 rounds, the mountain town team could have stayed in the league early. However, HAGL's performance is different now, with only 1 win in the last 6 matches (winning 5 out of 18 maximum points).
From round 6 until now, coach Le Quang Trai and his team have only won 6 more points. During this period, HAGL's ability to earn points is inferior to SLNA and is only equal to the bottom-ranked teams such as Da Nang and Hai Phong. The 8th place that the mountain town team has achieved mainly comes from the sublimation period at the beginning of the season. But when... returning to the ground, HAGL is showing the quality of football and reaping results that are not better than the teams in the danger zone.
That makes HAGL have to try harder in the second leg if they don't want to fall behind, especially when the teams in the relegation group have all changed dramatically. SLNA has won 8 points in the last 6 matches since coach Phan Nhu Thuat was appointed to replace Pham Anh Tuan. Da Nang FC also has 4 points in the last 2 matches (or even 6 points if The Cong Viettel hadn't equalized at the last minute) after appointing young "general" Le Duc Tuan.
Although Quang Nam and Hai Phong teams have not won yet, they are both "tough" and have experience in staying in the league.
Quang Nam Club (yellow shirt) scored 4 goals against CAHN Club
HAGL could fall into the danger zone if they do not regain their form. In the next 5 rounds, coach Le Quang Trai’s team will have to face 4 strong teams including Hanoi Police Club, Hanoi, Binh Duong and Thanh Hoa. This is a storm that HAGL must face. If they can survive, the relegation door will soon open.
Ha Tinh Club is undefeated, but...
A 2-2 draw with Binh Duong FC helped Ha Tinh finish the first leg unbeaten. After 7 years, V-League has found another team that has not lost in 13 first leg matches.
However, unlike the most recent unbeaten team, Hanoi FC, which dominated the 2018 V-League with 11 wins and 2 draws, Ha Tinh FC's unbeaten streak is very different.
Coach Nguyen Thanh Cong's team only won 3 matches, but drew... 10 matches. Ha Tinh Club is the team with the most wins in the top 8, and only won 1 match more than the teams in the bottom group such as SLNA and Hai Phong.
Therefore, Ha Tinh Club is in the top 5, but the 8-point gap with the danger zone is still not a number that coach Thanh Cong and his team can rest assured about.
V-League rankings after round 13
Of course, in theory, no team is certain to stay in the league. The competitiveness of teams depends on many aspects such as squad depth, form, coaching level or long-term experience. Ha Tinh Club has all the elements to confidently compete for the rest of the season (only 3 points behind the top 3), but most importantly, the Central representative needs to win more, instead of just... drawing and drawing.
Each small step will bring Ha Tinh Club to a safe destination, if they can keep up the fighting spirit like the way they tripped the home team Binh Duong in round 13.
