In a document sent to the Vietnam Road Administration, the Hanoi Department of Transport said that the demand for issuing and renewing driving licenses of the capital's residents has increased, leading to the number of driving license blanks purchased at the Road Administration not being enough for use in 2024.
As of October 17, the Hanoi Department of Transport only has 10,000 driving license blanks left. If additional ones are not provided in time, the department will have to temporarily stop organizing driving tests for motorbikes from October 18 and cars from October 21.
It is expected that from October 27, Hanoi will no longer have stamps to serve the procedures for issuing, exchanging, and reissuing driving licenses.
Responding to this issue, Mr. Luong Duyen Thong, Head of the Department of Vehicle and Driver Transport Management (Department of Roads), said that the shortage of driver's license blanks was due to the failure to predict the high demand for driver's license renewal among the people.
According to reports from the Department of Transportation, the demand for driver's license renewal has increased dramatically, with a 50% increase compared to last year. In total, from the beginning of the year, the Department of Transportation needed 3.4 million driver's license blanks. However, the number of driver's licenses issued in the first 9 months of the year has reached 3.5 million. Currently, the departments are proposing to issue about 1 million more blanks.
"The Department of Roads has asked the driver's license blank supplier to issue additional blanks. However, because the blanks must be imported, it will take time. By the end of this month, the supplier will import enough blanks to supply to the Departments of Transport in need," said Mr. Thong.
