Dien Bien Dong: 94% of households have access to clean water

Dien Bien TV - Continuing the thematic supervision program of the Provincial People's Council on "Implementation of policies and laws on investment, management, and domestic water supply in Dien Bien province in the period of 2021 - 2024", on April 17, Supervision Team No. 2 led by Comrade Mua Thanh Son, Head of the Ethnic Committee of the Provincial People's Council, had a working session with the People's Committee of Dien Bien Dong district.

Dien Bien Dong district currently has 216 centralized domestic water supply works; of which 92 works are operating effectively, 65 works are operating ineffectively and 59 works are not operating. In the period of 2021-2024, the district has invested in repairing and upgrading 20 works; building 5 new works. By the end of 2024, the whole district had 94% of households using hygienic water; 16% of households using clean water. However, due to long-term investment in construction, the impact of climate change, and unusual weather, many works have been damaged, degraded or ineffective after investment...

Dien Bien Dong District proposes that the Provincial People's Committee annually supplement funds for upgrading and repairing severely damaged and degraded works; support the management and operation of domestic water supply works in areas with difficult economic conditions. Propose that the Department of Agriculture and Environment open training courses to improve management capacity for management and operation teams of centralized domestic water supply works in the area.

At the meeting, members of the Supervisory Team requested the district agencies and units to clarify a number of contents regarding: Liquidation of inactive works; forms of project management according to regulations; inspection and supervision of water quality in the district... At the same time, they requested Dien Bien Dong district to actively implement socialization in the construction of centralized domestic water supply works, especially in areas with difficult water resources.

Previously, Supervisory Team No. 2 of the Provincial People's Council inspected a number of centralized domestic water supply works in Pu Nhi and Nong U communes, Dien Bien Dong district./.
