According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the capital's education sector has the largest educational scale in the country with more than 2,900 schools and 2.3 million students. Therefore, the work of building schools that meet national standards is identified as an important task, contributing to creating a modern, safe, friendly and effective educational environment.
Up to now, Hanoi has 412 schools meeting national standards, of which: 128 schools were newly recognized and 284 schools were re-recognized; the rate of standard schools in the whole city reached 61.4%; the public school sector reached 75.8%. Of the 128 newly recognized schools, 64 schools were recognized as meeting national standards level 1, 64 schools were recognized as meeting national standards level 2.
Among all levels of education, secondary schools have the highest rate of national standard schools, at 87%. Five districts have the highest rate of national standard schools in the city, including: Dan Phuong, Tay Ho, Gia Lam, Thanh Tri, and Bac Tu Liem.
This figure not only reflects the strong development of the capital's education system but also clearly demonstrates the attention and investment of authorities at all levels and the education sector in improving the quality of teaching.
In recent years, the authorities of districts, towns and cities have focused on planning and expanding school areas. Many schools have been built on campuses of more than 1 hectare with modern, synchronous designs, fully integrating functional areas such as smart classrooms, practice areas, open libraries and standard sports fields.

Primary and secondary schools meet national standards by 2024. |
To meet national standards, each school must meet five important criteria: management; facilities; teaching staff; teaching quality; and family-school-society coordination. In particular, schools are increasingly promoting the application of information technology, innovating teaching methods, creating an advanced learning environment, keeping up with modern educational trends.
Hanoi aims to have 80 to 85% of schools meeting national standards by the end of 2025. Currently, the Hanoi People's Council has approved investment policies for four projects, which are advanced and modern multi-level general schools in Thach That, Gia Lam, Dong Anh and Thanh Tri districts.
