On the afternoon of October 21, at the 8th Session, the 15th National Assembly elected Mr. Luong Cuong - Politburo member, Permanent member of the Secretariat, National Assembly Delegate to hold the position of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2021-2026 term.
In his inaugural speech before the National Assembly after taking the oath, President Luong Cuong said that at this special moment, he was very moved, honored and fully aware of his great responsibility before the Party, State and People when the National Assembly trusted and elected him to hold the position of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The new President respectfully thanks the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat, General Secretary To Lam and other Party and State leaders for trusting and recommending him to take on this noble responsibility.
He also expressed his respect and infinite gratitude to beloved Uncle Ho; deeply grateful for the great contributions of predecessors, veteran revolutionaries, heroic Vietnamese mothers, heroes, martyrs, wounded and sick soldiers, compatriots, comrades and people across the country who have strived, were ready to sacrifice and make sacrifices so that our country can have the foundation, potential, position and international prestige as it is today.
“In February 1975, in the heroic atmosphere of the whole country turning towards the beloved South, I volunteered to join the army, with the awareness and thought: Go fight to liberate the South, unify the country and only hope that on the day of victory, I will return alive and happy; absolutely not thinking, not dreaming of reaching this level or that position” – Mr. Luong Cuong shared.
Up to now, nearly 50 years have passed in the blink of an eye, he has gone through many working positions, been trained and tested in the fight to protect the Fatherland; matured from a soldier to a high-ranking leader of the Party.
Regardless of his position or assigned tasks, he is always steadfast and politically steadfast, absolutely loyal to the Party, the Fatherland and the People, striving to overcome difficulties and challenges, actively studying, cultivating, training, preserving moral qualities, lifestyle and improving working capacity; wholeheartedly striving to successfully complete all tasks assigned by the Party, State, Army and People.
On this occasion, President Luong Cuong expressed his deep gratitude to the Party, State, Army, Party committees and authorities at all levels; thanked the leaders, former leaders, comrades, teammates and people for educating, training, loving, protecting, guiding and creating conditions for him to fulfill his duties and grow up as he is today.
Faced with the increasingly high demands of the cause of national construction and protection, in his new position, as he has just sworn before the National Assembly, compatriots, comrades and voters nationwide, he promised to do his utmost to strive to fulfill his duties as President according to the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the tasks entrusted to him by the Party, State and People.
The President also emphasized continuing to maintain and strengthen the high solidarity and unity within the Party; together with the entire Party, the entire people and the entire army, continue to take care of building and promoting the strength of great national solidarity; build a clean and strong socialist rule-of-law state, truly of the people, by the people and for the people; strengthen national defense and security, build a revolutionary, disciplined, elite and modern people's armed forces, always being an absolutely loyal and trustworthy political and fighting force of the Party, State and people; build and consolidate the "people's hearts", the all-people national defense and the people's security posture.
Consistently implementing the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralization, diversification, proactive and active international integration, ensuring the highest national interests, Vietnam is a friend, a reliable partner, an active and responsible member of the international community; resolutely and persistently defending the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the country, maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for national construction and development.
Firmly upholding the goals of national independence and socialism, striving to build a Vietnam with rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness, civilization, prosperity and happiness.
“To fulfill the above noble responsibility, together with my own efforts and determination, I respectfully hope that the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat, the General Secretary, leaders and former leaders of the Party, the State, the Vietnam Fatherland Front; all levels, sectors, localities, agencies, organizations, compatriots, comrades, voters nationwide and our compatriots abroad will support, help, and create conditions for me to successfully fulfill the assigned tasks,” said President Luong Cuong.
