The new school year 2024-2025 begins, we have the right to hope for changes in the quality of education in the coming time as well as hope that students "every day at school is a happy day".

This morning (September 5), more than 23 million students across the country entered the new school year. Attending the opening ceremony at my son's kindergarten, I felt very moved by the joy of the children. The happy, cheerful faces of the children with flags and flowers in their hands, mingling with the performances. The opening ceremony was truly directed towards the owner of the event - the students. Fortunately, there were no more speeches or lengthy reports. The principal interacted and talked closely with the children. Suddenly, I felt excited when I remembered the poem Opening Day of School by Nguyen Bui Voi:
"The first clear autumn morning/ I wear new clothes/ To welcome the first day of school/ As happy as going to a festival... The school drum beats falsely/ The new school year has come/ We go to class/ Bright red scarves fluttering".
The opening day marks the beginning of a new stage in the children's learning journey, and the subject of the opening day must be the students. Sharing with The World and Vietnam Newspaper, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thanh Nam (Vice Principal of the University of Education - Vietnam National University, Hanoi) once said that in order for the opening day to be truly happy, the school must dare to accept differences and dare to change the inherent beliefs about the opening day. Each teacher also needs to be creative to express and spread love to the students in their class on the opening day.
Students become the center of the ceremony, right from the welcome at the gate. They appear on the main stage, speak, show their artistic and performance talents, and receive applause. Instead of long, formulaic speeches, there are inspirational stories. The opening day is organized as an open communication space, the stage is comfortable and close to the attendees to create a sense of friendly connection. The goal of a school is to meet the learning needs, personality development training and happiness needs of learners.
In recent years, it seems that the opening ceremony has become gentler, with real interactions for students. The content and form of expression are close, truly touching the students' emotions.
Professor Huynh Van Son, Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, once shared that if the opening day is aimed at children, for children, it is necessary to determine the right goals, nature and methods. It is necessary to determine the right focus of the festival, so that students can have fun, experience true and fresh emotions to create motivation to go to school and study. The opening day with its rituals and activities must be dedicated to the students, respecting their expectations and feelings to have a truly friendly, positive and impressive festival.
"Education and training need to continue to aim at human development and human happiness, maximizing the human factor, taking people as the center, subject, resource, and goal of development, creating the foundation for realizing the goal of a rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness, and civilization...". Our Party and State always identify education and training as the top national policy, and have had and are having priority policies for the development of education and training. In the 2023-2024 school year, after 10 years of implementing Resolution No. 29-NQ/TW dated November 4, 2013 of the Party Central Committee on fundamental and comprehensive innovation of education and training, our country's education has made strong developments and achieved many important achievements, contributing greatly to improving people's knowledge, developing human resources, and nurturing talents; making important contributions to the country's socio-economic development and international integration.

The 2024-2025 school year is the first year to implement Conclusion No. 91-KL/TW of the Politburo on continuing to implement Resolution No. 29-NQ/TW and deploying the new General Education Program in all grades from grade 1 to grade 12.
Therefore, in a letter to the education sector on the occasion of the opening day of the new school year, General Secretary and President To Lam hopes that the education sector needs to focus on implementing the proposed theme of the school year: "Innovation, quality improvement, solidarity and discipline".
General Secretary and President To Lam said: "Education and training need to continue to aim at human development and human happiness, maximizing the human factor, taking people as the center, subject, resource, and goal of development, creating the foundation for realizing the goal of a rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness, and civilization...".
At the same time, he believes that students will strive to study, cultivate, absorb and master knowledge, form core competencies, and create great aspirations to build an increasingly prosperous and happy country. The General Secretary and President hopes that teachers, managers, and workers in the education sector will always be dedicated, love their jobs, be creative, overcome all difficulties, and contribute more to their noble cause. Parents, for the future of our children, cooperate well with the school, creating a close connection between school - family - society in education.
"I request that the Central Committees, ministries, branches, Party committees and authorities at all levels pay more attention to the education cause with timely, practical and correct decisions so that teachers and students can teach and study in a healthy environment with full conditions to promote creativity and successfully carry out the reform of the country's education," General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized.
Meanwhile, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son acknowledged that this is a school year with “many major tasks and challenges”. One of the tasks that the Ministry of Education and Training focuses on this school year is to improve the quality of preschool and general education, including improving the quality of teaching and learning foreign languages, especially English at all levels and training levels. The Ministry of Education and Training will research and develop projects and plans to gradually make English the second language in schools.
Many experts believe that it is time to re-evaluate the nature of education, which is the journey to unleash new abilities in learners, such as thinking ability, language ability, creativity... and most importantly, self-study ability.
After all, the teaching content is just material for learners to use to awaken and train their abilities, to grow up. To do so, the teacher will not see a student as a child who needs to be taught, but needs to be nurtured. At that time, the real job of educators, most importantly teachers and parents, is to awaken new things in children, not to cram information and knowledge of subjects to get high scores.
Education is to liberate the students' thinking and will to rise up, how to move towards a creative country. Fortunately, the 2018 general education program with its capacity development approach has overcome some of the limitations of the 2006 education program by focusing on capacity development, instead of equipping the content of subjects.
Therefore, the new school year 2024-2025 begins, we have the right to hope for changes in the quality of education in the coming time as well as hope that students "every day at school is a happy day", schools must be truly happy...
