Da Nang brings pickleball to schools

On April 12, Mr. Tran Nguyen Minh Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang City, said that the department has just issued an official dispatch launching a movement to practice and compete in pickleball to all cadres, civil servants, public employees, workers and students of units and schools in the city.

Bringing Pickleball to Schools

Accordingly, schools will count the number of registrants so that the department can propose to the Da Nang City Pickleball Federation to support rackets, balls and professional training sessions.

The Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang city said that currently the movement of practicing and competing in pickleball in the country in general and in Da Nang in particular is developing very strongly.

Pickleball has also been included in the official competition system by the Department of Sports and Physical Training (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism).

The City Pickleball Federation is very interested in developing this movement in schools and has sent a letter requesting coordination with the department.

"Therefore, the department has boldly decided to introduce pickleball to units and schools in the whole industry so that civil servants, public employees, workers, students and trainees have a new sport that is easy to practice, effective... to add more choices in physical exercise.

Regarding the training grounds, units and schools will proactively build or renovate them. The most important thing for the department is not to affect the grounds for other sports in the school and the organization of physical education teaching according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training," said Mr. Thanh.

Mr. Thanh said that with the support of the City Pickleball Federation, it is expected that in early August 2025, the department will organize a tournament for civil servants, public employees, and workers in the education sector, thereby evaluating the movement and having the next direction.

Hot sport

Pickleball is a sport originating from America, which has grown strongly in Vietnam over the past year.

The sport can be played indoors or outdoors, in two categories: singles (2 players) or doubles (4 players), on a rectangular court.

Pickleball is essentially a hybrid sport between tennis, table tennis and badminton. The court is the same size as a badminton court, and players use flat rackets - smaller than tennis rackets but larger than table tennis rackets - and a ball that is smaller and lighter than a tennis ball.
