Poverty alleviation models
A typical example is the value chain-linked cattle farming model implemented in Tra Tan and Tra Giang communes for 39 poor and near-poor households. Accordingly, each household is provided with 3 cows, which have so far been effective in terms of productivity and quality, becoming a poverty reduction livelihood model for the people. Here, households together build a long barn with many compartments, each household keeps cows in a compartment, and together take care of a herd of 15-20 cows. Households in the group will take turns taking care of and grazing the cows.
Similarly, in Son Tra commune, with funding from national target programs, in 2023 the commune will implement a community-based cow raising project for 14 household groups (with 79 households participating in raising 227 breeding cows).
According to Mr. Ho Van Dieu, Head of Ha village, Son Tra commune, head of the community group 2 of Ha village: Each village has 2-3 groups of households (from 5-6 households), each day 2 households will be responsible for grazing and feeding the cows.
“The community cow raising project has helped reduce the situation of free-range cows, and people know how to take better care of their cows. When they earn profits from the cows, they will contribute capital to households who want to participate in the model of borrowing money to buy cows to raise together, expanding the group of households to develop the economy together,” said Mr. Ho Van Dieu.
As for Ms. Ho Thi Nga, a Cor ethnic in Tra Tay commune, with the supported capital, she boldly planted nearly 60,000 cinnamon and acacia trees, taking advantage of the garden and hill area to raise chickens and hybrid wild boars. Thanks to that, her family has a stable income. Cinnamon trees alone bring her family an income of about 80 million VND each year, along with income from livestock. Not only successful in developing the family economy, Ms. Nga is also a pioneer in all local activities and enthusiastically helps with capital and techniques for the local Cor ethnic women.
Or like the family of Mr. Ho Van Lach, in Trung village, Tra Son commune, in early 2023, he was supported with 2 breeding cows, trained in how to build barns, grow grass to raise cows, by the end of 2023, he and his wife had stable jobs, rising above the poverty line.
