Proactively prevent and control pests and diseases affecting rice crops.

(QBĐT) - Rice pests and diseases are showing a strong tendency to develop. Currently, all levels of government, specialized agencies, and farmers in the province are continuing to implement many measures to promptly prevent the emergence and development of rice pests and diseases.

These days, in the rice fields of Tuyen Hoa district, farmers are actively inspecting their fields and spraying pesticides to control pests and diseases affecting rice crops. Mr. Tran Van Can, Director of the Tuyen Hoa District Agricultural Services Center, said: This year's winter-spring crop saw 1,433 hectares of rice planted in the district. Currently, the rice plants are in the heading stage; however, due to unfavorable weather conditions, many rice fields are being damaged by pests and diseases. Notably, 420 hectares of rice in the district are affected by leaf tip dieback, concentrated in the communes of Mai Hoa, Phong Hoa, Duc Hoa, Thach Hoa, Dong Hoa, Tien Hoa, Chau Hoa, Cao Quang, Son Hoa, Kim Hoa… The disease rate is 30-40%, with some areas reaching 60-80%. In addition, more than 93 hectares of rice are affected by rice blast disease.
For leaf blight disease, the district has instructed farmers to mix 10ml of Tilsupe 300EC with 20 liters of water and spray 2 tanks per 500m² plot to control the disease and limit its spread. In fields currently affected by blast disease, farmers should stop applying growth stimulants and maintain sufficient water levels; use one of the specific active ingredients, such as Tricyclazole, Isoprothiolane, or Fenoxanil, for control. Farmers should spray the pesticide evenly over the leaves. Severely affected fields should be sprayed 2-3 times, with each spraying spaced 5-7 days apart; spraying in the early morning or late afternoon is recommended for best results.
Farmers in Mai Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa district) are spraying pesticides to control leaf blight disease in their winter-spring rice crop.

Mr. Tran Van Thiet from Mai Hoa commune said: “My family has 4 sao (approximately 0.4 hectares) of rice fields. Recently, I don't know if it's due to the weather or some other reason, but the rice plants throughout the area have yellowing leaves. Many areas that weren't sprayed with pesticides in time will have dry leaf tips. We have been instructed on how to spray pesticides to control the disease. Hopefully, the rice will recover and the yield will not be significantly affected at harvest.”
In Quang Trach district, during the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop season, the entire district planted 3,394 hectares of rice. Currently, early and main crop rice is in the heading and flowering stages, while late crop rice is in the heading stage. Approximately 40 hectares have already flowered in the communes of Lien Truong, Phu Canh, Quang Luu, etc. Many areas of winter-spring rice in the district are also experiencing bacterial leaf blight (52 hectares), rice blast (30 hectares), and leaf roller (27 hectares)... In addition, nearly 50 hectares have been damaged by rats. Therefore, farmers are intensifying pesticide spraying.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Truong from Quang Phuong commune said that his family has 4 sao (approximately 0.4 hectares) of rice fields. About 20 days ago, many areas of rice plants had their leaves completely burned. At that time, the rice was still in the tillering stage, so in severely affected areas, the family cut off the tips of the leaves to allow new leaves to grow. Currently, the rice has not yet flowered, so he is still unsure whether it will affect the yield and production. His family regularly inspects the fields to detect diseases and pests and proactively takes preventive measures to ensure a successful harvest.
This is currently a crucial growth stage for the winter-spring rice crop, fundamentally determining the final yield. Meanwhile, the weather conditions remain complex, creating favorable conditions for the emergence and spread of pests and diseases. Therefore, farmers need to regularly monitor the fields for pest and disease outbreaks, especially for diseases like neck blast and leaf blight.
According to statistics from the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, this year's winter-spring crop saw over 29,133 hectares of rice sown throughout the province. Early-season rice is in the heading and flowering stage; main and late-season rice is in the tillering and heading stage. 165 hectares of rice have already flowered (90 hectares in Le Thuy, 40 hectares in Quang Trach, and 35 hectares in Quang Ninh ). However, during this period, pests and diseases are spreading rapidly across many areas. Specifically, leaf tip blight and physiological yellowing affect 420 hectares; rice blast affects 341 hectares; bacterial blight and bacterial leaf streak affect 218 hectares; brown spot affects 125 hectares; and brown planthopper and white-backed planthopper affect 45 hectares. The area affected by small leaf-rolling caterpillars is 28 hectares… Particularly, the area damaged by rats is 413 hectares, concentrated mainly in Le Thuy district (128 hectares), Bo Trach (90 hectares), Quang Trach (49 hectares), and Ba Don town (47 hectares)…
According to Ho Khac Minh, Head of the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection: Currently, with foggy mornings and evenings, sunny days with scattered rain, and cold nights, coupled with farmers carrying out the second round of fertilization to prepare for heading, conditions are very favorable for rice blast disease to cause damage (some rice fields have already shown signs of scorching). He requested that localities continue to direct specialized units to regularly monitor the situation on the ground to inspect and detect early signs of disease so that timely control measures can be implemented according to the guidance of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection. In addition, localities need to effectively carry out forecasting and prediction of crop pests and diseases to provide advice, guidance, and close coordination with local authorities to organize timely and effective pest control to protect production and ensure crop yields and production according to plan.
