On November 15, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center coordinated with the People's Committee of Doan Hung district to organize a workshop to discuss solutions to increase the value of grapefruit trees.
Delegates attending the workshop evaluated products processed from grapefruit.
Attending the conference were representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, leaders of Doan Hung district, agricultural extension stations and typical grapefruit growers in the province.
By the end of 2023, the total grapefruit growing area in the province will reach about 5,600 hectares; an increase of 140% compared to 2015; the average output will reach about 18,000 tons/year. The province has built 161 concentrated grapefruit growing areas with a total area of 2,650 hectares; 162 establishments with a total area of 1,742 hectares have been granted growing area codes, of which 144 codes are for domestic consumption and 18 codes are for export. The grapefruit growing area in a safe direction will reach over 3,100 hectares, with nearly 1,000 hectares achieving VietGAP certification... Up to now, Phu Tho has had 10 cooperatives and grapefruit production establishments recognized as OCOP, of which 2 entities have achieved 4-star status, 8 entities have achieved 3-star status with a registered output of about 10,000 tons/year.
Producing grapefruit peel jam at Van Don grapefruit production and agricultural service cooperative, Van Don commune, Doan Hung district.
In recent years, the agricultural sector has tested and introduced a number of grapefruit varieties with good yield and quality and different ripening times to reduce the pressure on harvest time, initially bringing high efficiency to grapefruit growers.
However, in the period from 2017-2020, the area of grapefruit in the whole province was developed rapidly, causing the quality of young grapefruit (short-lived trees) to be low; many neighboring provinces also strongly developed grapefruit trees, causing the price of grapefruit to drop, making it difficult to sell, leading to a situation where some farmers do not take care of or cut down grapefruit trees and switch to other crops....
At the workshop, delegates proposed many solutions to overcome the above shortcomings, focusing on processing solutions such as making grapefruit peel jam; grapefruit essential oil; grapefruit wine, grapefruit tea, while increasing the promotion and introduction of grapefruit products through e-commerce sites, social networks... At the workshop, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center introduced to delegates the digital agricultural map of Phu Tho province to help farmers update information about the market and production data, helping consumers and producers to easily find information and achieve high business efficiency.
Before that, the delegates visited the model of processing products from young grapefruit and grapefruit of Van Don grapefruit production and agricultural service cooperative, Van Don commune, Doan Hung district.
