Support for skill improvement
Established in 2021, the “Knitting and weaving brocade” model in Thoh Ga B village (Chu Don commune) has attracted 10 Jrai women to participate. Participating in the model, members are trained to improve their skills; thereby, creating unique brocade products with delicate and eye-catching colors, both for family use and for sale to earn extra income.

Having been involved with weaving since childhood, Ms. Rmah H'Alen shared: "In the past, I weaved brocade to serve my family. Since joining the model, I have been taught techniques for weaving difficult patterns and have had the opportunity to learn more experience from local artisans to create more beautiful products. In particular, the products also have the opportunity to be known by many people when participating in fairs and agricultural markets."
Ms. Ro Mah H'Phũin - Model Manager - said: "Realizing the increasing demand for brocade products during holidays, Tet or weddings of the Jrai people, we mobilized women who know how to weave in Thoh Ga B village to participate in the model. Thanks to their efforts and diligence in learning, after a while, the brocade products made by the women are consumed more and more, not only helping them earn more income but also contributing to encouraging and motivating women to stick with and preserve the traditional brocade weaving profession of the nation".
The brocade products of Thoh Ga B village women are all handwoven, so it sometimes takes a week, a month, or even longer to complete a product. That sophistication seems to enhance the value and beauty of traditional brocade products. Taking advantage of their free time from farming, members of the model can also weave 1-2 brocade pieces per month. Each brocade piece is sold by the women for 1.2 million VND or more. During village festivals, people are also excited and proud to wear colorful brocade costumes made by themselves and their fellow villagers.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien - President of the Women's Union of Chu Puh district - shared: The model of "Knitting and weaving brocade" not only contributes to preserving traditional cultural identity but also demonstrates the efforts in the journey to conquer the dreams and aspirations of Jrai women in Chu Puh district. They are increasingly trying to overcome gender stereotypes and demonstrate their values through talent, knowledge, spreading positive spirit in the community; gradually affirming their role and position in the family and society.
New opportunities for brocade weaving
Recently, the Women's Union of Chu Puh district has implemented technical support activities for 10 members participating in the "Knitting and weaving brocade" model in Thoh Ga B village. Under the guidance of artisan Kpa H'Mi, the women learned about the preservation of traditional weaving, the cultural value of brocade weaving as well as solutions to preserve and promote weaving in the community.
In addition, they are also instructed in cotton growing techniques, making yarn, weaving fabric using traditional looms, dyeing fabric and how to decorate patterns on brocade.

Artisan Kpa H'Mi said: "Brocade weaving is closely associated with daily life, demonstrating the skillfulness, diligence, and industriousness of Jrai women. Therefore, in the past, all women in the village knew how to weave brocade. I also learned from my mother and knew how to weave when I was very young, now I teach it to my sisters with the hope of preserving the traditional craft of my people."
Currently, the brocade weaving profession in Chu Puh district still faces many challenges when a part of the youth is less interested in the traditional weaving profession and the products lack a stable consumer market. To overcome this situation, according to the President of the Chu Puh District Women's Union: From the capital of Project 8 "Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children" under the National Target Program on socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the period of 2021-2030, the Association will continue to deploy financial support, organize training courses, and promote products of economic development models from indigenous resources such as brocade weaving.
