Nguyen Ngoc Minh (born in 1995, living in Ho Chi Minh City) is the person who took this photo series. Minh said that taking photos of camping and travel items is done by many travel bloggers around the world. He hopes that one day he will be able to take a photo like this.
After 2 years of traveling with his wife and daughter, he suddenly remembered that he had a lot of things, so he arranged them out to take a test photo. Unexpectedly, this photo was widely shared on social networks.
He said he himself wanted to be minimalist, but the more he traveled, the more he felt it was lacking, so he gradually became less minimalist.
“After every trip, I feel the need to bring back a few more things. The same goes for shopping. I also try to choose the most compact items so that I can put them all in the car. When we first went, it was just the two of us, so we had little stuff. After we had a baby, we had more and more stuff,” he said.
According to him, to pack for each trip, he will make a list in order of priority and the area he will go to on that journey. When going to cold weather areas or coastal areas, he will bring different items for the most convenient living. His family often goes camping so he equips quite a lot of things from cooking, tables and chairs, warm clothes, living things... to recording equipment.
“This photo was taken while I was camping in Da Lat. Seeing that this place was spacious, I spontaneously spread everything out to take a photo.
The total time to set up and put together was about 5 hours with the participation of 4 members.
While setting up, it was still raining so we tried to finish as quickly as possible.
It was almost 6pm when I set it up. As soon as I finished, I took out the flycam to take a picture, but I forgot the memory card. I was afraid it would get dark so I forgot about it. Finally, I got a satisfactory photo as a souvenir," he said.

When posting on travel communities, he was delighted to see people's positive support. However, some people commented: "I have too much free time, so I just set it up and move in, why use it all?" He shared that he brought a lot of things but only used about 1/10 of them each time.
“I need different items for each different place. Not to mention that my family also travels to many different terrains and experiences in many destinations, so I always bring enough for protection.
“Once, I had an accident where a wheel fell off a cliff on the Northwest Road. Because the road was so narrow, it was easy to deviate from the lane. But luckily, the car didn’t have too many problems, just a slight scratch on the front. I used the repair tools I brought with me to fix the problem,” he said.
According to him, packing for a car camping trip will depend on each family’s needs, just like choosing furniture for the house. Each person will have their own taste. However, he encourages everyone to choose items with a compact and lightweight design for easy packing on trips.
Among the items, the roof tent that is installed directly on the roof of the car is the most expensive because most of the time the family sleeps in remote places. He said he chose a good roof tent because it ensures the safety of his wife and daughter in bad weather conditions.
His favorite is the power station. Both he and his wife are freelancers, so he uses the power station every day to charge his devices, from recording devices to laptops, to ensure work.
Take your child around the world
He said the purpose of his family's pickup truck travel is to help his daughter Nguyen Khanh An (born in 2022) experience the world. Traveling by this vehicle is very suitable for a small family like his, because the front seat space is very comfortable, the vehicle has high chassis, comfortable movement on difficult terrain and is convenient.

In the 2 years of having baby An, Minh’s family has traveled to more than 50 provinces and cities in Vietnam. He is currently planning to travel to a neighboring country, but is having difficulty with procedures and permits, so he has not been able to go yet.
“My family likes the Northwest region the most. The deeper we go into remote villages, the more we see the hardships and suffering of the people in the mountains. The journey also gives me a lot of inspiration. I hope to have the opportunity to come back so that An can learn more about the culture and help the people,” he said.

Tran Thanh Thao (born in 1996, Minh's wife) said that before meeting her husband, she had backpacked alone and traveled to more than 15 European countries. When she met him about 4 years ago, they had planned to travel around the world together.
She believes that if parents have time and are flexible with their work, they should take their children to experience things early. “This is one of the best ways for children to increase their independence and form good habits. Besides, traveling with their children is also a way for parents to connect more with their children,” she said.
However, the couple does not advocate quitting their jobs to travel. To have this journey, Minh spent more than 8 years preparing all the necessary skills to be able to earn money while traveling.
His main job is still marketing, besides that he also cultivates many skills, from filming, taking photos, writing, creating content and even consulting on brand development strategies for businesses related to experiential tourism, to have stable finances to take his children everywhere.
